We run paddleboard sessions on the Thames for everyone, from total beginners to experienced paddlers. Our sessions vary in length and type, but are typically two or three hours in duration, and can be in the morning, afternoon or evening depending on the tide. You will be paddling on one of the most beautiful stretches of the Thames, either upstream towards Eel Pie Island and Teddington, or downstream towards Isleworth, Kew Gardens and Chiswick. You will need to be able to swim and be confident in the water. A certain level of flexibility and ability to get up to standing from kneeling is required for learning to paddleboard. You'll be sharing your instructor/s, but you'll be sure to meet some interesting people to add to the experience. The session will start with a safety briefing and some land-based training before heading out on the water for a guided tour. You'll be able to ask for technique advice and tips along the way. Don't be shy!
I've lived near the Thames in Richmond most of my life, and have been paddling on the river since about 1970! After leaving a career in digital advertising, I trained as a stand-up paddleboard coach, and in April 2019 set up Active360 Richmond with my friend Mark. We are both passionate about growing this new sport, and passionate about helping people get out on the water on one of the most beautiful stretches of the Thames. Everyone comes back with a smile! We are a new paddleboarding business, but closely connected to other Active360 locations at Kew, Brentford and Paddington and our coaches have years of experience paddling on the Thames.
Brand new high spec paddleboard, lightweight paddle and buoyancy aid / lifejacket
You will start at Richmond Bridge, in the heart of this beautiful and historic town. You will then paddle along the riverside, past Ham House, Marble Hill House and up to the famous Eel Pie Island, where the Rolling Stones once played. On the way back we may explore the wildlife around Corporation Island or the Flowerpot Islands, or even visit Richmond Lock. And on certain tides we may even reach as far as Teddington Lock on our journey.
最多可供6位年滿18歲的旅人參加。 No experience required, just a sense of balance and adventure!
No specialist clothing is required, but no jeans please, as cotton gets very cold when wet. In warm weather, ordinary quick drying gym gear will be fine (shorts/leggings/T-shirt/fleece), with old sandals or trainers that you don't mind getting wet. Or you
Paddleboarding is a fun sport that is really easy to master. Almost no one falls in the water - but if you do you will be wearing a buoyancy aid and it's easy to get back on your board!
