We start in my local neighborhood, San Donato,an off the beaten path area of Florence just outside the center that is easily reached by short tram ride for an authentic feel of local Florentine life. We then ride 5km to Piazzale Michelangelo to visit my favorite cafe where Aldo will serve us a typical Italian breakfast & take a group photo with the scenic backdrop of Florence. We’ll pedal for 15km thru my favorite hidden trails beyond the greens that make you feel you're in the Florence country side for a moment. After we ride along the Arno River & emerge in the northern part of the city to see historic landmarks & learn about Florentine aquarelle & artisanal leather. Next a juice stop by Mercato Centrale or Piazza Signoria at one of the first restaurants I worked, meet my friends who own the place, then a gelato studio by Palazzo Pitti where Almeida will show us her gelato secrets & serve us a scoop to fuel us for the last leg of the ride. We end at Cascine Park with a picnic made by my friend,a local chef, with ingredients from Sant’Ambrogio market. I’ll bestow upon you my keys to unlock perks at my local faves in Florence during your stay.
My name is ILIR and in my native language it means FREEDOM. My parents & relatives say that I rode a bike before I started walking. It’s been a passion for 30 years now and through a bike I am FREE. I bike with friends & groups regularly 2/3 times week within the historical city of FLORENCE and surrounding areas. I also have a degree in Architecture & Engineering, an excitement for the history & architecture of Florence and I’d love to share my story with the guests of this city as we explore on bikes. My passion for biking, knowledge in history, my insider info learned while working in restaurants/hotels will make for an interesting ride as I take you away for a few hours from the smog of this city to show you the surrounding “heart” of Florence. I own more bikes than clothes but I can’t keep up un-rusting them alone SO BE MY GUEST
