Meet me at the boat landing at dawn, mid-morning or dusk and we'll get you outfitted for your paddleboard. I will guide you out into the Folly River as we find a quiet spot to anchor for some yoga that will challenge what you thought you knew about your practice. Allowing for changes in the tide, wind, or current, we begin with a 15 minute on-water paddle skills course as we approach our anchor spot. You'll learn about the Charleston marsh ecosystem and the animals within. For the next 60 minutes, we will transition into a yoga class, starting slowly, learning to move on and around the board as we focus on safe, stable alignment and work up to a vinyasa flow with optional standing poses. Room to play, time to swim, and most importantly, space to fully relax into a deep, well-deserved savasana are the highlights of this unique floating yoga class. After we've come full circle, we will pull up the anchors and begin our 15 minute journey back to shore, practicing the skills we've learned and hopefully moving with more ease and confidence through the marsh.
After decades of yoga practice and a lifetime of being on the water, I created Drift Yoga Charleston when I saw the need for a safe and authentic small group experience on our local waterways. I am an ACA-certified paddleboard instructor as well as a yoga teacher on staff at two local studios, a member of the SUP Racing community and a nature guide for a local company.
Everything you'll need for our excursion: paddleboard, paddle, life jacket, anchor. We're happy to photograph you in action…
Paddleboarding in Charleston is a lot like the Slow-Food movement. Seeing the lowcountry from a car or a packed kayak tour is fine, but standing on a board out in the marsh as the water splashes your toes allows you to be fully, quietly immersed in our ecosystem. Disembarking from the Folly Boat Landing, you'll soon find yourself eye-to-eye with the tide as you learn to navigate your board through the nutrient-rich saltwater of the Folly River.
