I welcome you with a traditional herbal drink and present some information about my urban farm, Perivoli sit Vari, and the values that make it "tick". During a scenic walk around the olive grove, you will learn about the life cycle of the olive tree and its importance in Greek culture, about the olive tree varieties in Greece, the procedure of olive oil production and the factors influencing the production of extra-virgin olive oil. The walk ends with a visit to the small-scale, state-of-the-art cold extraction olive press. (Autumn visitors might even get to see it in action!) The sensory properties of olive oil are then demonstrated through the tasting of three top-quality olive oils, with hints for the recognition of a high quality extra virgin olive oil, and paired with a selection of our olives, slow-fermented country bread and homemade feta cheese. At the end of the experience feel free to stroll around the beautiful farm, purchase our bounty from the little deli corner and maybe even enjoy a full meal prepared freshly in the farm-to-fork kitchen, or coffee/drinks/dessert in the shade of the trees...
I am the founder of Perivoli sit Vari, a small urban farm on the outskirts of Athens, cultivated since 2011 according to the principles of Permaculture. Ι am a small scale olive oil producer, with my own olive grove and a small-scale, state-of-the-art olive press where I produce small-batch, cold-press olive oil. I am also a certified olive-oil taster.
Three exquisite extra-virgin olive oils from different areas of Greece, a selection of our traditional olives, freshly baked,…
Herbal tea, (iced or hot depending on the season) freshly brewed from our herbs, and cool filtered water
Perivoli is a small farm, a mere 4,000 sqm, growing organic, seasonal vegetables. You will get to see our small orchard and olive grove, our chickens and pond, and enjoy a wonderful outing in a natural environment, forgetting for a while that you are in the city...
Hat, sunscreen and comfy shoes are advisable, especially in the warmer months
We will be walking around an open space, so hat, sunscreen, comfy shoes and an umbrella on rainy days is recommended!
