We will be taking a walk around the beautiful and art-filled town of Hellissandur. On the walk I will tell you the history of the town as well as explaining the meaning and point behind all the different art that can be found in the town. I´ve curated street art projects here for the past few years and now the town is known as "The Street Art Capital Of Iceland". We have a lot of art here and I´ve got the insider knowledge of where it comes from, who made it, what inspired it and why. The walk will take less then one hour but we will stop in many places and from this you will gain a deep understanding of what makes Hellissandur such a special town.
I´m Kári Viðarsson, the creator and owner of The Freezer Hostel & Culture Centre in Rif. I am an entrepreneur, actor and the man behind the idea of the street art project in Hellissandur. I am 34 years old and I grew up in this town. Here are my roots and I´ve spent all my adult professional life enhancing the cultural and artistic status of this wonderful town. My background is in theatre and music and as an artist I´ve created many different projects for stage and film, I´ve also created music and street art festivals and produced multi cultural food festivals and an annual international film festival here in the area. My ambition is for our guests to get an in-depth understanding of our sagas and culture and by taking a town-walk with I´m sure it will make them feel like they´ve gained real meaningful understanding of my home town.
We will be stopping at the old fish factory, old fire station, by the sea monster and next to three of the main statues in town. We will also make a stop to look for seals and if the weather conditions are good we will go to the beach for some light sea walking. The places all have a historical and artists value here in town as they have art work but also represent meaningful moments in the history of Hellissandur.
