We will walk through the historic site of the Alhambra hill. There are many small paths on which it is easy to get lost. We will guide you through this hill on a tour of nature and heritage that you could not do otherwise. We’ll meet at the bridge over the Darro River and start walking. We’ll soon take a small path that zigzags across the hill and through the woods. A surprise awaits at the end of the path: we’re at the base of the Generalife, with The Palace (i.e. The Alhambra) above our heads and Granada at our feet. Stunning views. We will discover the hydraulic system which has brought water to the Alhambra gardens and palaces from the Darro River for eight centuries. In front of us, the impressive building of the Abbey of Sacromonte appears. This is a good time to talk about its unique history. From here we’ll walk following almost horizontal paths with views over the valley. A second climb will bring us to the top of the hill. From this moment we will have the best views of the plain of Granada and its two valleys, Darro and Genil. We will start returning to Granada stopping at interesting points of cultural interest that belong to the medieval hydraulic system. Once we return to the Darro river closing the loop we will be able to enjoy a refreshing beer enjoying views of the Alhambra on the terraces next to the river.
My name is Teresa Madrona and I belong to the Air.bnb community of Granada. Throughout my life, I have avidly pursued hiking and mountaineering in the mountains of my homeland and abroad (the Rif, Atlas Mountains, Alps, Pyrenees, among others) and have organized hundreds of hiking trips for my club as a volunteer. After 11 years of teaching biology and geology and organizing hiking activities, I decided to found my own company: Sierra&Sol. I am a nature guide and my activities have all the legal requirements that our country requires to organize and guide in the countryside (full insurance, wilderness first responder training, certifications, and licenses) I am passionate about sharing my knowledge of Andalusian cultural and natural heritage with my guests, visitors, and clients.
At the end of the walk, we will be able to rest on a terrace bar, for a beer, soda or other drink (It depends on you!)
We can lend you hiking poles
