We’ll taste three rare teas (including charcoal roasted Oolongs and Pu'ers) aged up to 30 years old interspersed with casual and tea-related conversation. I will cater my banter to all levels of tea experience and knowledge. My goal is to deepen the participant’s understanding and admiration for tea, by allowing plenty of opportunity to pick my brain with questions. Though I’ll provide a guided tea-tasting by going over tasting notes, and an introduction to the tea plant, Camellia sinensis, I aim to provide an informative, yet lighthearted tea experience. The ambiance is just as important as the content: from handcrafted incense to beautiful tea ware, I strive to create a space where we can 'come to our senses' in the simple act of drinking tea. Don't see a time that works for you on my calendar? Send me a message and we can find a time that works!
I wear many hats: I’m a web developer, a juggler, a DJ, but as your host I am a Taiwanese and Chinese tea enthusiast. Once a year I embark on tea sourcing trips to Taiwan and China in order to build relationships with ecologically minded artisan tea farmers and to learn from tea professionals. I hold a BA in T’ai Chi and have always had a deep love of East Asian culture, philosophies, and aesthetics, which I integrate into my tea practice. The accumulation of these experiences led to the founding of Steady Hand Tea Company in addition to a Facebook group with over 6,000 people dedicated to learning about and building an international Chinese and Taiwanese Tea culture. Needless to say, my mission and joy is to connect with people over tea and to spread the infectious magic of this incredible plant and lifestyle.
3 personally sourced artisan teas. All the teas are mild but do contain caffeine so I don't advise coming on an empty…
Our tea session will happen in my private plant filled tea studio tucked into the backyard of a beautiful old craftsman house on a quiet residential street. You may spot the chicken 'Benedict' in the backyard as well as the birds which frequent my porch.
