140-Year Old House: Experience Authentic Japan

Popular for Nakanojo Biennale tourism. MAYUDAMA HOUSE is a renovated old-Japanese art house with 140 years of history. Built in the late Edo period, when the Shogunate was reigning, this house was used as a silk mill in the 19th century. Surrounded by lush nature, the house nests in a region with deep forests and hot springs. One of the nearby hot springs is Kusatsu which is one of the most famous in Japan, where the Shogun came to rest, and became a model for the ghibli film “Spirited Away”.

Sanson Terrace "Silk Barn"

Ohinata in Sakuho-town is a small village in a valley. I renovated a 80 years small wooden house by myself taking a long time. The building used to be used for raising silkworms by farms. It was our culture and industry to get silks in this area. You can have a calm time for having Coffee and beer, reading books, listening music... The village is surrounded by nature for hiking to mountains and rivers. Some local families live in around the house, so please stay like the village people.

This house is located between Karuizawa and Matsumoto Castle. ---About 60minutes to both places by car. Also close to Shinkansen Station "Sakudaira" and "Ueda" ---About 30minutes to both station by car. Very close to Supermarket, Convenience store, Onsen (japaese hot springs), and local restaruant.

Seaside Private Handbuilt Garden Cottage

Yamakujira Sou is a 50 year old seaside cottage restored by a local surfer/hunter family. In the spirit of Reuse & Recycle, almost all building materials were sourced from derelict local structures, and the owners rebuilt the cottage by hand over 3 years. A 2 minute walk from the beach, and a practically private surf break, Yamakujira Sou is a tranquil, warm space to relax while basking in the vibe of the Boso countryside.

I want you take calm time with your loved ones in the cozy house. *It's very suburb, so you need a car(snow tires are necessary during December to April) to come and sightseen. There are livestock farms around the house. Sometimes, smells like a barn for cows. If you don't like it, I don't recommend you to book the house.
