It is a lively neighborhood with plenty of choices of restaurants (including two of our own) and market areas. There is not a lot of nightlife in Kata compared to other areas of Phuket so it's good for families and people looking to spend time on the beach. Kata is a good central location on the island and about 45 minutes from Phuket airports.
