Thank You for renting our Sea Cliff cottage on Eleuthera. It's truly a fun place and a beautiful island to discover. Below is some helpful information about getting there, the house, shopping ,car rental and dinning.
Important ……..please send me your airline name and arrival time on on Eleuthera as soon as possible ? This is so I can let my caretaker Phillip Thompson know when to expect you.
When you arrive on Eleuthera you will need to drive your rental car or go by Taxi and stop by my caretaker Phillip Thompson Sr. house located in Gregory town. I will tell Mr. Thomson you will be coming to meet him about half an hour to an hour past the time your flight arrives. If you happen to run later than that please call him (242) 808-0088

I have a favor to ask ? Can you please help me by bringing $200 cash USD to my caretaker Phillip? I will reimburse $200 back onto your credit card before you depart to go to Eleuthera. This is a big help as wiring small amounts of cash to Bahamas is very costly and slow. Thank You in advance for your help with this.

Directions to care taker Phillips Thompsons house:

If you are coming from North Eleuthera drive 25 minutes south on the main road which is called Queens Highway to Gregory town. Once you arrive in Gregory town look for the 7-11 grocery store which will be on your right once you pass 7-11 convenience store and just before the gas station on make a left on the street which goes up hill … Go up the hill and just as you start go down look for the house with large storage garage next to his house. This is Mr Phillip Thompsons house he will welcome you and take you to our house.

If you are coming from Governors Harbor go into Gregory town take the right off Queens Highway just before 7-11 convenience store on left and just after Roberts gas station on right. Go up the hill and just as you start go down look for the house with large storage garage next to his house. This is Mr Phillip Thompsons house he will welcome you and take you to our house.

Please let me know your inbound flight times a soon as possible ?

Flights to Eleuthera

• Regarding Flights to Eleuthera I can recommend checking Silver Airways or Amercan Airlines both offer non stop service from flights out of Fort Lauderdale or Miami to North Eleuthera or Governors Harbour . Also Delta now has direct flights from Atlanta to North Eleuthera (ELH)…...There are 2 airports on Eleuthera that are close to my home. North Eleuthera (ELH) or Governors Harbour (GHB) either one is the same distance 25 minutes away. Silver has partnership with Jet Blue and United. If you are flying direct to Nassau check connections with Southern Air http://www.southernaircharter.com/ or Pinapple Air https://www.pineappleair.com which offers inter island service from Nassau to North Eleuthera or Governors Harbour. Connecting through Nassau is not the best way to go however sometimes during peak season it is more economical. I prefer flying to North Eleuthera because I know the taxi drivers there.

Regarding check in :

Check in is after 4pm on day of arrival and Check out is 11am on day of departure.

Important info about the house:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Please note our house is on a cistern . Please use water conservatively short showers and doing dishes. Thank you

The cistern water is not drinkable. we have a 5 gallon water dispenser for drinking water. You can return the 5 gallon water jugs to 7/11 store in town when empty and pick up a new one for $5

We have a wooden butcher block countertop in the kitchen .Please do not cut on top of this surface.... there are 2 cutting boards available to use as cutting surfaces. Thank you

We don't have local trash pick up so if you need to take out trash please take out by car or bike to Queens Hwy going north towards gregorytown about 1/8 mile there are 2 large black trashcans located on the right just before Commonage Road which is the paved road heading towards the Atlantic.

The house does have an air conditioner that works like a champ. This is needed in the summer months. Optional November - May If you run the a/c I ask that you please close all windows and doors as the unit will freeze up if doors are left open. THANK YOU ….In the day turn it up to 20 on the remote and at night turn down to to 16 or 18. In the summer I like to open the house up in the morning let fresh breeze in have cafe on the deck then close the house up for the day and run the a/c on 20 this keeps the house comfortable. In the winter we leave the house open all day while we are home.

There are bugs seasonally depending on the amount of rain they are the worst is the summer and early fall months. We live in south Florida so we are use to this and in hot summer months we keep our home air conditoined all day. Bugs are fact of life in the Bahamas which has its up side with Monarch butterfly blumes…. millions in the summer. Interesting beetles and non bitting bugs. The bugs bring interesting birds for bird watching on nature walks through Surfers Beach bush. Our house is exposed on a cliff less buggy than some of the low lying mangrove areas. We are blessed with steady breezes. The no see ums come out just before dark. If the bugs are a problem during your stay I recommend a locally produced organic bug repellent cream called Neem available in local stores.

I have supplied the house with enough Bath Towels and Beach Towels …... if you need to do laundry during your stay you can drop off a load with Judy a nice Bahamian lady who has a laundry mat just as you come down hill on left in Gregory town before the water front. open Mon -Sat 8 till 5 very reasonable fees.

Bring your own music. If you have an iPod or iPhone or smart phone with a play list the house has a portable speaker system you can plug into . This is nice to have. or bring portable CD player with your Cd's you can plug Aux cord

Curency:

The exchange rate is 1 to 1 Bahamian Dollar / US dollar all places accept US dollars for payment. The smaller mom and pop dinning establishments are cash only . Most grocery stores and upscale dinning will take credit cards. Bring plenty of cash as the closet ATM’s are Harbour island and Governors Harbour. Most rental cars are paid in cash

Cell Phone info:

For using your cell phones at the house........ please check with you carrier and get an international data and voice plan for the time of you stay. This will be much better than paying standard Bahamas Cellular international rates

Due to High international long distance rates it is best to call the Bahamas on "Whats App” “Skype" or “Viber"( these are apps you can down load onto your smart phone. I have been using "Whats App” and most of my Bahamian friends use this and its free This works on your cell phone data plan..Down load “Whats App” on your smart phone this and you can call the Bahamas free ….You can also use these apps at hot spots on the island to make LD calls and local calls

As for groceries I would recommend packing some snack foods like power bars and nuts trail mix coffee etc. If you like to cook I would also recommend bring along some , spices, maple syrup for planned meals which will save money as some specialty items are hard to find and pricey.

For cooking in at the house which I enjoy doing. I try to plan large one pot meaIs. Pasta Sauses. Curries and Rice. Try to buy fresh Bahama bread. ask around Gregorytown and see who has fresh bread. I recommend making french toast my favorite is to ad a shot of coconut rum and a dash of cinnimon to your french toast egg mix and try to bring down some maple syrup. Excellent!!

The largest grocery in North Eleuthera is called Birchies and its up near North Eleuthera airport ( ask directions at the airport). That is the best place to stock up on food. There are 2 convenience stores in Gregory town (7/11 and JC discount) where you can buy basics breads, eggs, cheese, milk, butter, canned foods and coffee. (7/11 has wifi) They are weak on produce but always have some basics peppers tomatoes onions and frozen meats. You can buy good produce at the farm stands Roots in Gregory town and there is also a good farm stand 15 minutes south on Queens Hwy past the local town of Hatchet bay about 5 minutes on the right before you get to the Rain Bow Inn. If you go to Spanish Wells there is and excellent well stocked grocery store there with a wonderful home baked sweet treats. I usually get the basics at the 7/11 and get produce at the farm stands.

Bahamas Sea Cliff Cottage is my artist island home built in Bahamian vernacular style similar to Loyalist Cottages built by boat builders 200 years ago. We have a large deck to enjoy beautiful views of rugged tall cliffs with a million shades of blue Bahamian waters that are in dynamic change throughout the day. Enjoy the sea birds and rich marine life below. The island has much to discover both culturally and in its pristine natural beauty. The views from our home are the best....each day brings dynamic changing, light, wind and tide on the Exuma Sound. There are truly amazing sunsets. The house is brand new with simple elegant island inspired decor. Some of my Daniel Caldwell isalnd paintings are featured. You can bicycle, walk, or go by car to local beaches to surf , snorkel or collect shells and sea glass which is a local favorite . Engage in the friendly Bahamian community which is great fun. Relax and unplug from busy world. If you like to read, write , sketch, or paint watercolors..... its a fine spot for this. There are several local style restaraunts and grocery stores near by. There is live music nightly at different venues up and down the island. Find out who is hosting the live music when you arrive. You can rent surfboards or Kyaks, or go fish with a local guide. Several places in Gregory town provide this. In Gregory town check in with local fish dock in town for fresh fish , lobster stone crabs or conch. Conch salad is excellent ask who is making it that day. Go to Pam's Island Made gift shop visit with Pam and see the creative talent of local artisans Pam included. Ida's Delights for Ice Cream or for her Grits and Fish in the morning. Good Fuel for the day! . Don't miss 'Laughing Lizard' for healthy organic grown lunch or breakfast as well as WIFI also see Ann at the Glass Window art and garden center next door for more island crafts and fresh local grown produce.

See Ann at Mr Bone's liquor store for cold beer and spirits
