Hi future travellers reading this review! Richard's comment insinuates I start work at 6am and am constantly on the phone talking loudly, which is not the case at all. I work from home a few days a week, and very rarely start before 10am, and even more rarely make a phone-call. While I regret that Richard was woken up by me, if you're planning to sleep past 10am in a shared apartment that I have described as a warehouse-conversion, I would appreciate a simple heads-up and I can easily take my phone-call outside or adjust my routine to accommodate you, which I am very happy to do. I'm disappointed that Richard felt strongly enough about this point to make a comment about it but respect his choice to do so. To give context, Richard booked his room saying that he had moved out of a share-house because he's "too picky" and spent his stay telling me what was wrong with all the houses and people he'd been looking at. I had chosen not to highlight several things that were strange behaviours or minor breaks of my house-rules in my review of Richard but to give further context to his comments now: Richard ignored my request to put a photo up on his profile before he checked in (he has now), he made no contact with me between booking and 20 min before arriving at my apartment (several days), making it difficult to plan for his arrival, he hung wet towels and clothing on the live sprinkler system which I explicitly ask guests not to do in my welcome notes (a slight bump will set them off), he cooked fatty meat on the stove-top without using the exhaust fan or cleaning up the stove-top, leaving grease and bits of bacon around the stove for me to clean up (twice), he left the toilet-door open while he peeing, he didn't use the exhaust fan in the bathroom, and made a very odd query to me about whether he should walk to the bathroom in a towel or not. I'm absolutely fine with guests keeping to themselves, but the only question Richard asked me in 9 days was: 'Do you rent or own this apartment?' but was happy to talk about himself for as long as I stood there listening. I decided not to labour over all these relatively minor 'niggles' in my review of him, but seeing as he has laboured over the point of my apartment lacking an "air-locked" room (I'm not sure where you'll find an air-locked bedroom in a Melbourne apartment...), I think it's important for readers to have a bit of context over the kind of personality that might be noting that. Richard made a note that my description was not 'accurate' but I have clearly noted and am up front in my listing that the design of the apartment means noise travels so encourage communication around this if you are going to bed late/early or up late/early. I have also noted there is construction in the neighbourhood, which I would have though would bother Richard more than a phone-call, but FYI to readers - the chance of construction noise in the morning is already noted in my listing and you are absolutely welcome to ask me questions about this if you're concerned.
