We don't like to say unkind things about our guests, but this needs to be addressed. Dmitry first said their ETA would be between 6 and 8 p.m. They kept making it later and later with more excuses and did not arrive until after 2 a.m. Excuses and super-late check-in may be OK for a hotel but for a private home, it is not acceptable. Even though we have a lockbox, we do not allow new guests to just walk in without first meeting them. How can it be known that a "guest" is not trying to take advantage of an unsuspecting homeowner long after midnight? Also, our "House Rules" stipulate that guests must check in prior to 10 p.m. We must have fallen asleep (on the sofa) after waiting until past midnight due to just returning from Israel the day before and still suffering from jet lag. It was obvious from his messages that Dmitry was not super-fluent in English, so it was at times difficult to sort things out from his messages. At one point, he said he was in an underground parking structure and his messages may not have gotten through until later. As it turned out, this was the case.
Regarding, the carpet, the room is thoroughly vacuumed after each guest. The bed is low and will not accommodate the vacuum. True, under the bed is not vacuumed every time. Nevertheless, our other guests have often commented on how clean, beautiful and comfortable our new home is. Bottom line is that we welcome ALL OUR GUESTS...especially when they are considerate and understand that private homes are different from hotels.
