A self-contained space, with comfy double bedroom and well-sized private sitting room with sofa bed, for couples or singles. Private bathroom. Stunning views across the lovely garden to the countryside beyond.
Oatmill Cottage is in the delightful village of Lealholm. The North York Moors are on the doorstep, with circular walks and cycle rides from the village. The village pub does excellent food. Whitby is minutes away for unusual shops, arts, live music, culture, and walks along the beach.
Facilities include smart T.V., fridge, kettle, tea and coffee making provision within the sitting room.
Both bath and shower are available with copious quantities of hot water.
An additional single room can be made available to a party of up to 5 sharing a bathroom.
The two resident dogs have very limited access to the house and none to visitors' space.
Guests will have access to a private terrace overlooking the village of Lealholm and to the garden (formerly open under the NGS open gardens scheme). A private tour of the garden and local nursery can be part of your visit on request.
Secure storage facilities are available to guests with bikes.
There is an additional bedroom adjacent to the stated rooms with single bed and wash hand basin. Use of this room can be negotiated separately for a nominal charge.
I will be available to help and advise throughout the stay.
Lealholm is at the heart of the North York Moors National Park and is a popular destination.
Local knowledge of places of interest and particular beauty in the surrounding area is available from your host.
Oatmill Cottage is actually two converted railwaymens' cottages built in 1910 and some of the structural planting in the garden date from before this time when there were mill cottages on the site.
Animal lovers will find plenty to interest them in and around the house and surrounding grounds, which are home to chickens (providing fresh eggs), ducks, two dogs, a horse, moorhens, sheep and a stable cat.
Living in Lealholm is perfect for me as it allows me to ride my horse Molly across miles of moorland without meeting any cars. I love walking my dogs and tending to my Gotland rare breed sheep. I enjoy cooking for guests and am always looking for new things to try. Gardening is my biggest passion but I like to see new films and travel to London to see major exhibitions when I can. When I get to the end of the day I can think of nothing better than sitting reading in the summer house with a good book and a glass of wine.
