Rakinui Cottage is 35 minutes from Christchurch airport and a short drive to Leithfield beach, or a pleasant walk via the Kowai track. We are 8 kms to shops and restaurants in Amberley, which is the gateway to the Waipara wine region. You’ll love Rakinui because of the peace and quiet, the native gardens, 25 acres of farmland and the horses and alpacas. Rakinui Cottage is good for couples, solo adventurers, and families (with older kids). It is available for short term or longer term lets.

The cottage is completely self contained; it has an open plan living/dining/kitchen; good sized bedrooms, one with a queen bed, the other with a king single and pull out single; built in wardrobes; bathroom with shower and vanity; laundry with washing machine; separate toilet with vanity; large front deck under verandah, small back porch, washing line and outside eating area.
A self service continental breakfast is provided.

Guests may go anywhere on the property as long as gates are kept closed and attention is paid to advice about stock, hazards etc.
The cottage is insured for a maximum of FOUR guests and only people who are covered by the booking have a right of access to the property.

Above all else we want people to be comfortable and have a relaxed, pleasant stay.
This is a lifestyle block with stock and it is adjacent to a large sheep farm and occasionally there will be activities that create some noise during the day. We do everything possible to minimise this.
At the moment we do not provide dedicated facilities for infants or toddlers and, as the space is open plan to the kitchen, parents with small children need to be mindful of the potential hazards.
The cottage is insured for FOUR persons only and a child who can walk unaided is considered to be one of those persons.
There are three shallow steps up to the front and back doors.
We have a metered allocation of water which is filtered, softened and pumped on site, and there is a septic tank system for waste.
As we run our place as sustainably as possible, and we want to keep our prices reasonable, we ask people to take note of how to use the inverter (heat pump) economically.
if laundry cannot be line dried, guests may use a dryer in the main house for a small additional fee.
There is detailed advice on all of the above in the cottage handbook, which we ask guests to read on arrival.

We are a kilometre from Pukeko Junction cafe, 2 kms to the historic Leithfield Pub and 8kms south of Amberley, with its range of restaurants, cafes and shops, and close to the Waipara wine region.

We live in a house adjacent to the cottage and are happy to either involve you in our daily activities or respect your privacy. Although the cottage is close to the house it is very private and extensive native plantings almost totally shield the house from view.
