The location is great for access to Larkin Community Hospital and University of Miami - about a 10 minute walk to each. Lauran was very happy to turn on the air conditioning each evening when I asked her to and willing to accommodate any request. I slept in the bed for a month an…
Es un lugar muy sencillo y es fundamental saber que hay que aceptar los gatos y las mascotas de los otros huéspedes. Yo no tuve problema. El mobiliario del lugar es escaso y no hay lugar para descansar, ni sillas , ni sofás. Es solamente para ir a dormir en un sofá cama en una…
I don’t understand Spanish, but am noting some anomalies - Margarita is complaining about the chic sofa bed, I believe, which is clearly explained in the description; she gives only 4 stars for location, which really surprised me given that this location is just a short walk from the university of Miami, where she mostly spent her time when here, and also close to Larkin, the Metro, shops, restaurants, US1. Etc, etc. Also just to get 3 stars for value - ??? Margarita came in on a very low price and was lucky to get that. Guests who have paid significantly more than that have given me stellar reviews. But then, some guests are just so much better than others. Unfortunately. Also Margarita’s lack of consideration for my time when leaving was not appreciated. She presumed she could leave her bags for some extra time after check out, which I let her do, and she arrived a couple of hours late. With no prior warning. This is not a respectful way to treat a host. My plans were messed up for that day. I need to know when guests have left my house and my responsibility ends. Some guests have really taken liberties with that.
House is located in a quiet residential neighborhood, walking distance to UM. Lauran is very available to answer questions and help out. The private room comes with a ceiling fan and some closet space. Cats share the AirBnB common space, but they are outdoor cats that keep to the…
It was a pleasure hosting you Jamilla. Yes the ac is turned on constantly now, and given that a couple of people have said that the sofa bed is too hard for them, my latest guest to the Ozzy Room - another monthly Larkin student - had her bed waiting for her with a thick mattress topper. Best.
The sofa bed is very hard and uncomfortable. Other reviewers had already warned me of this, so I'm just repeating the message here. Also, there is no AC in this house - I imagine it will be pretty bad in summer.
You are so wrong. There is very good air conditioning here and I will turn it on when necessary. My preference - and a lot of my guests’ - is that the fans are left on and that there is a breezy, open way of living here. Regarding the bed - you had read reviews, and I believe at the time there were two complaining of a hard sofa bed (one of whom was used to a $9,000 bed at home) - so why did you not ask for a foam cover, or other alternative which is available, for the bed? This is so wearing, to be such a popular host - see reviews - yet suffer financially from people who are unaware of how Airbnb is (not a hotel), and to complain whilst not making issues know at the host house.
Hi, I saw her inquisitive cats more than her, but meeting Lauran was good. She seemed like a nice person. I had a problem with the sofa bed in the room. I guess a sofa bed to me means a futon style sofa. However the sofa bed in the room is about 6 feet long - not long enough f…
How unfortunate - on both sides. And saddening. Sarah - yes it was pleasant meeting you, and I’m rather surprised by your reactions and low review. Which impact me negatively financially and undermine the huge amount of work it is to host Airbnb guests. For example, every time a guest checks out, my assistant cleans the rooms thoroughly, including sweeping and disinfecting the floors, also the door handles and surfaces everywhere, plus the bed. My intention is that not only will guests get to experience a bacterially cleaned room, but an energetically cleaned room also. I often use sage here - although I prefer frankincense - and I want each guest to have their own unique positive experience of their room and their time in Miami. My overwhelming amount of five star reviews on this place suggest that most do. Also, it’s been a lovely experience for me to know that many had exceptional experiences here and made wonderful friendships - some with me. When you contacted me at 8.30pm - way outside regular business hours - I gamely got out of bed and left you the blanket that you requested. There could have been a much better situation - you could have contacted me at a more reasonable hour, told me the issue, and I could have suggested a foam addition for the bed for you. Even an air mattress, which you said you got at your friend’s place. It’s true, two guests before you have felt that the sofa beds are too hard for them. One has a $9,000 bed. I’m not sure that I’ve ever slept on a $9,000 bed but yes, if that’s what you’re used to, I would hope that a sofa bed is an inferior experience for you. Otherwise why pay so many more thousands of dollars more? As to a sofa bed being an inferior experience to a futon - well, I really don’t know. My choice on these sofa beds was very much based on requirements of looking good; they’re from Milan, I think they look chic; and giving guests the choice - particularly interns at Larkin and students at UM, who are often my guests here - the choice of feeling like they had more of a studio room than a bedroom. And the additional space. I think one of the issues here, and I’m not sure how/where to resolve it, is that some guests think - and perhaps the star system is misleading? - that Airbnb hosts are offering a hotel experience, with all the requisite staff. No. We Airbnb hosts are often exhausted in our efforts to provide a unique and pleasurable experience for guests - whether we have assistants or not. Good luck Sarah.
Lauran's house is the perfect no-frills place to stay. She was welcoming and made sure I had everything I needed. She gave good recommendations for cheap local eateries and places to grab a drink. She was personable and a great host. The place is walking distance to the Univers…
