Penny and her husband welcomed us in their huge house. There is an entire floor for guests including 5 rooms (each with showertub and en-suite), a kitchen and an additional bathroom (bathtub). We had our dinner outside our room on the veranda which was well equipped. However, b…
We are extremely distressed that you feel such extensive unsavoury comment is appropriate. Indeed, the more we look at what you have said the more upset we become. You had ample opportunity to speak with us and it would have been courteous of you to mention any shortcomings in our accommodation or facilities. You are visiting our home not a hotel. If you read our profile and property description you will see that we are retired, and still working on the refurbishment of our home and the decoration is incomplete. If you share someone's home you have to take into account that it is being used as such. Your initial inquiry was on Sunday 2nd, for your arrival on Tuesday 4th so we should have declined your inquiry as we had resumed our works to the house and had to stop and clean again. For bed and breakfast guests, the guest kitchen is not available to them, so you would have no reason to use this room, and it was being used for our decoration purposes. If there was a "disgusting" dishcloth, it was left from our own use and certainly a mistake on our part to leave it there. The swimming pool is also not made available to B&B guests unless specifically requested. If you have tried to maintain a swimming pool you would know that the colour can change almost overnight, and the temperature of the water had been in excess of 30 degrees for several days making the treatment unstable. Hence it was unavailable to us and not on offer to any guests. We would suggest that, if you feel uncomfortable in someone's premises you should say so, to give an opportunity to your hosts to make amends. We welcomed you, and your dog, and have been honest and fair in our own review of you as guests but maybe you should have pointed out to us that your dog had done a puddle on the shower mat to ensure that I could attend appropriately to the hygiene? Some things are "just life", and all people are different. You comment on the breakfast offered, which was in line with what other guests and French people in particular have asked for, and there has never been any complaint whatsoever. As they say, "you can't please everyone". We offer B&B at a reasonable price, and not 5 star hotel accommodation.
My husband and I purchased a home in France in 2005. Until then we were running our own M&E engineering contracting/maintenance company, employing electricians and plumbers and working long hours. We decided to slow down, sell the business and retire early. We cannot believe h…
