My roommates and I love to spend time with our guests, and, to be honest, that is the reason I host on AirBnB. I really enjoy sharing Hong Kong with visitors, because I feel like I love this city most when I share it with others. Of course, I do have a full time job Monday through Friday, which somewhat limits my availability during the day. On the weekends, however, I have much more free time to spend with my guests.

I would say I manage a pretty social apartment. With three bedrooms, I normally have a combination of AirBnB guests and roommates, plus myself and the dog. So while you can rest assured that you'll have privacy in your bedroom, the common areas of the flat are very much shared. I am also fond of hosting gatherings, especially on the roof, so you're always more than welcome to interact with our group of friends and meet a bevy of interesting people from all corners of the globe!

Fair warning: our apartment is located on the fifth floor of an old-fashioned Chinese tong lau, evocative of the bygone Hong Kong of the 50s and 60s. The building has no elevator, and in American parlance, we would call it a six-floor walk-up.

I also have a two year old pooch named Fredric, who will also be sharing the space. He's super friendly and affectionate, but does like to chew on socks, pillows, shoes and the like.

We are on a sixth floor walk-up with a rooftop terrace and no elevator. The stairs are steep. This can be dangerous for unsupervised children.

Guests are free to use all amenities of the flat, including the kitchen, common living area and private rooftop terrace. We ask that they respect our property and our neighbors. (And please only smoke on the rooftop, not in the apartment itself!)

Six flights, no elevator
Happy Valley is quieter than most neighborhoods on Hong Kong Island's northern shore, but there is still street traffic.
A friendly two-and-a-half year old dog named Fredric.
The kitchen, living room, rooftop and bathroom are shared.

It has a Nice bed. Friendly host and his (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) helped us smoothly to get in. Nice experience!

Paul's a very welcoming host who's interesting to talk to and very attentive to his guests. Celebrated the start of the year on his rooftop! I'd recommend staying here.

A big apartment (huge if compare to other places in hongkong) with an amazing roof top bar. It is located in a quiet living area with reachable distance to central hongkong. Paul is very friendly and nice to talk to. His dog is super cute and hospitable. A bit noisy at night because close to the road but not a big problem as you will be very tried after full day trip.

Paul is a very hospitable host. He even invited me to his Thanksgiving potluck dinner with his friends and his birthday party. I would recommend staying here to anyone.

I stayed at Paul's place for 4 nights during a weeklong trip in Hong Kong. I have to say my experience was perfect! First of all, Paul's place is just as described and it's awesome. The place is large and Paul has decorated it with a lot of cool things he's collected over the years. The rooftop is fantastic too, and it was nice to relax out there at night. The bed is also great, as it is western-style and soft, and the pillows are actual quality pillows too, which is rare for an airbnb I've found. Paul is also a great guy and beyond the mountains of information he is ready to impart on guests looking to explore Hong Kong's nooks and crannies, he also is willing to come and spend time with you and grab a dinner or take you out to the racetrack. That said, I never felt pressured to hang out, which is great for those like myself that sometimes wish to go out alone and get lost in a new city and take photographs. Bonus! Paul also has the friendliest dog in the world in Frederic! I'm not too familiar with breeds and forgot to ask, but I loved this guy and looked forward to waking up and seeing him sitting on the couch ready to come give you a hello. I don't think he barked once the whole time I was there, and he was just the most mild-mannered and friendliest dog in the world. I will definitely look to stay with Paul again whenever I make it back to Hong Kong.

Alright at best, bad at worst, the apartment was disappointing some ways. The host (and his dog) were gone during our stay which he told us, and his roommate who was supposed to be there wasn’t present either. To start with the good, the apartment including the bathroom was generally pretty clean and comfortable. The view of the racetrack is very nice and rooftop is quite nice. Location is relatively central, although it is about a 15 min. walk from the nearest subway, and you could also take the tram but prepare for the risk of traffic. Now with the bad. The biggest pitfall was definitely the fact that the apartment’s Wi-Fi was not working; given that no one was around, this was not fixed for the entirety of our trip which made the trip much more difficult. We got in contact with the host who made it clear that his roommate who was supposed to be there apparently failed to pay for the Wi-Fi for that month and offered us a 50% discount as a result, but the convenience of Wi-Fi would have been worth much more than $30 USD we “saved”. The main couch smelled like dog, so keep that in mind. There were ants on the kitchen counter. The air conditioning wasn’t very functional, so opening windows were our next best option, but it’s kind of hard to sleep at night when mosquitoes are buzzing in your ear and biting you and you have to choose between mosquitoes or being very hot. Also, a lizard crawled into our room. All that being said, take everything said here with a grain of salt; my suggestion would be to rent a private hostel room somewhere in Kowloon where you’ll be closer to subways and won’t have to deal with some of the inconveniences that we encountered.
