Located in a historic house in charming Barnstable Village, this 1300 sq. ft. duplex apartment has two bedrooms plus a sleep sofa, two full baths and a grand piano. A brick terrace with gas grill overlooks a private yard with beautiful gardens.
Downstairs: private entrance, large LR w. 7' grand piano, queen sleep sofa, HDTV with HBO etc., WiFi, dining area, kitchen (stove, fridge, microwave, coffeemaker etc.), bath #1.
Upstairs: 2 BR, both with queen beds (one w. deck overlooking gardens), bath #2, reading nook.
Outside: brick terrace, gas grill, large yard, outdoor shower, off-street parking.
We live in a separate unit in the front part of the house, and will be available to assist guests during their stay.
Barnstable Village is full of Cape Cod charm. Within a short walk, you can reach coffee shops, the town library, retail stores, three restaurants, the village market, town beach and marina. Further afield are all the natural, historic, and cultural attractions of Cape Cod.
We have a big yard (over an acre). Lots of room for kids to play & adults to hang out. We have bats, balls, gloves, frisbees and croquet.
Because the apartment is in a separate wing from the main house, guests need not interact with us unless they wish to. But we're happy to chat over a cup of coffee if you like!
Interesting fact: our house and two other buildings nearby were featured on an episode of the National Geographic archaeology TV show "Diggers." Among the artifacts they found in our back yard: colonial-era coins, a garter clip and a Model T Ford hubcap.
No smoking, no pets, no parties other than small dinner parties.
We do ask guests to treat the property and our neighbors with respect, and forgive any quirks associated with a 200-year-old house!
While we welcome families, we have not attempted to "child-proof" everything, so:
(1) Please, no children on the upstairs deck off the bedroom.
(2) Musicians love our 7' Mason & Hamlin grand piano and you're welcome to use it, but it's a valuable instrument, not a child's plaything.
To help you plan your visit, shortly before you arrive we will send you an extensive PDF guide to the apartment, the neighborhood, and the attractions of the mid-Cape area.
My husband and I live on Cape Cod. John writes for corporate clients, and I own an artisan soap making company called Summer House Natural Soaps. We love the homey, friendly atmosphere of an Airbnb so much more comfortable and interesting than staying in a hotel. It's been such a good experience that we decided to start hosting as well.
