Not an ordinary 13th Century house, it is owned by artiste/professor, who haas left her painterly mark on nearly every interior surface. Located on Francescas' "royal road," this creative retreat (a separate studio is also available to rent) is a perfect place to immerse oneself in (a) kind, friendly village life, having lots of commerce. These include a bakery, grocery, butcher, gas station/news agent, bank, pharmacie, doctor, post office, hairdresser, regional museum, small bar/hotel, a highly rated restaurant known for its unique Gascon cuisine.
First mentioned in local history in 1025, Francescas is a bastide village founded in 1226 by Edward I, when the region alternated between French and English domain.
The bastide, the ancient village , was built to a grid layout: tiny streets, connecting at right angles. At the center of the grid was, and still is, an arcaded square.
There are two bedrooms, one of which (Lilly Room) has a balcon which overlookis the small courtyard and nearby Eglise. This lovely has a bed for two. The other opposite bedrrom overlooks Rue Porte Neuve and is furnished with antiques, among them two large bateau lits (sleigh beds). The large wall in this room is painted with a mural of classic nude studies.
The charming courtryarde, beyond the kitchen, is often a monastic experience!!!!!!
