Chapel Cottage is a semi-detached cottage, located just off Bourton’s High Street. The front door is accessed via the cottage’s front garden, and opens directly into the living room, with the following rooms on the ground floor: Living/dining room: This characterful room has exposed oak beams, stone mullion windows, and a large Cotswold stone inglenook fireplace with a wood burning stove. There is a three seater and a two seater leather sofa plus a leather pouff, as well as a pretty window seat.Other facilities include a Smart TV with Netflix access, and a DAB radio with an iPod docking station. The dining area has a lovely flagstone floor, and contains an antique wooden dining table with four chairs and a window seat, which overlooks the front garden; Kitchen: A doorway leads through to the country-style kitchen, which overlooks the garden. This well presented room has an electric oven, four ring gas hob, fridge freezer, dishwasher, microwave, kettle and toaster. There is a stable door out from the kitchen to the courtyard garden at the back of the cottage. A steep, winding staircase leads up from the living room to the first floor landing, off which are the following rooms: Bedroom 1: A lovely room with whitewashed stone walls and oak beams, which contains a double bed, a chest of drawers with a mirror, and hooks to provide hanging space; Bedroom 2: Another stylish room, which contains a king size bed, and hooks to provide hanging space; Family bathroom: Contains a bath with overhead shower, toilet and wash basin. Further steep, winding stairs lead up to the second floor room: Snug/bedroom 3: This room is a perfect hideaway in the lovely eaves of the cottage, complete with Freeview TV and DVD player, plus a selection of DVDs, books and games. At the front of the cottage is a pretty, gravelled garden, with a stylish wrought iron table and chairs, which is ideal for making the most of the morning sun. The stable door from the kitchen opens out into the private courtyard garden at the rear of the cottage, which also has an outdoor table and chairs, and captures the late afternoon sun. The back garden has a useful outbuilding, which contains a washing machine and a tumble dryer. There is a 30-minute parking zone directly opposite the cottage, which is ideal for loading and unloading luggage, and two Pay & Display car parks are located a short walk away from the cottage.

Please just ask for any recommendations of places to visit during your stay. Chastleton House is a mile away & described as the finest example of a Jacobean Country House in England. Little Compton has a Stunning Manor House with Saxon/Norman Church adjoining. The Walks from The Garden Room are spectacular, for example, an hour & half walk through fields will take you to Long Compton & another Red Lion for lunch perhaps?.. equally fabulous food. Traveling further afield by car or taxi, you have Moreton in Marsh, Chipping Norton, Stratford Upon Avon, Bourton on the Water, Stow on the Wold, Woodstock & Blenheim Palace, Cheltenham, Oxford, all under an hour to get to & all beautiful towns.

Also near by is the renowned Dailsford organic farm and spa. Middle Gable The Old Hall is accessed via its garden, which leads to the beautiful wooden front door. Inside the house, a small entrance hall leads into: Living room: A grand room, which has been newly refurbished in a traditional style, enhancing the abundance of period features, including stone mullion windows, a large fireplace with wood-burning stove, wooden beams and a centuries old alcove. Located in the north Cotswolds, Stow-on-the-Wold is one of the principal market towns in the region. The main feature of the town is the historic market square which used to play host to the annual sheep fairs where, at the height of the Cotswold wool industry, up to 20,000 sheep were sold at one time. The market square is steeped in history and has two features which date back to the medieval period. At one end of the square there is the medieval cross which was erected to urge traders to carry out fair business under the eyes of God, and at the far end stand the town stocks which are found in the shadows of the old elm tree. Originally known as Edwardstow or Stow St Edward after the town's patron saint Edward, the town's church is also named after him. The church is just 100 yards from the town square and is a lovely place for locals and tourists alike to get some peace from the bustling market square. The north door is guarded by two yew trees and is a focal point of the town. Stow has traditional narrow alleyways, or "tures" as they were once known, which wind their way through the centre of the town. It is these same alleyways that were once used to channel the sheep to the fair. Another point of interest in the town is the well in Well Lane which is now a Grade II Listed Building. As a result of the rather unique geology of the area, water held in the higher layers of the limestone bursts out of various fissures on the slopes and two do still work as wells now. Notgrove Estate is one of the few remaining privately owned Cotswold estates offering 1500 acres of private rolling farmland. We have mapped out walks, around the estate and local area and can recommend longer walks if required. Our working farm has sheep and cattle as well as our pet goats, donkeys and alpaca who live just across the track from the pods . You can hire bikes from the local company via our website. We are ideally located to visit the local attractions of Bourton on the Water (3 miles) Stow on the Wold (5 miles) or Burford, Stratford Upon Avon, Cheltenham. Adam Henson's Cotswold Farm Park is a 15 minute drive away and The Cotswold Wildlife Park is a 25 drive away. Bourton on the Water is 3 miles down the road and has many Cotswold wonders such as Birdland, The Model Railway and the Miniature Village - as well as lovely cafes and shops. The local pub is The Plough at Cold Aston, this is a 1.5 miles walk from us across the fields or down a quiet lane - with lovely food and beers. Or The Black Horse at Naunton is also a lovely village pub with great pub food and a cosy atmosphere.

The Notgrove Estate is a 1500 acre family run working farm owned by Harry and Diana Acland. Set high up in the Cotswold Hills it has 400 acres of grassland in deep valleys and 100 acres of woodland and rolling arable fields. The farm has a mix of sheep, cattle and arable and has diversified with two horse livery yards and a holiday cottage business. In the last few years Harry and Diana have put in new foot and bridle paths and entered into a wildlife conservation scheme planting 200 acres of special plots planted with wild bird mixes, corn bunting mixes, pollen and nectar mixes for bees and beetle banks that promotes the preservation of our natural wild birds. The scenery changes with each season as does the pattern of farming; we have an abundance of lambs and calves in spring, harvest in summer, colourful autumn leaves and dramatic winters, often with snow.

Located in the north Cotswolds, Stow-on-the-Wold is one of the principal market towns in the region. The main feature of the town is the historic market square which used to play host to the annual sheep fairs where, at the height of the Cotswold wool industry, up to 20,000 sheep were sold at one time. The market square is steeped in history and has two features which date back to the medieval period. At one end of the square there is the medieval cross which was erected to urge traders to carry out fair business under the eyes of God, and at the far end stand the town stocks which are found in the shadows of the old elm tree. Originally known as Edwardstow or Stow St Edward after the town's patron saint Edward, the town's church is also named after him. The church is just 100 yards from the town square and is a lovely place for locals and tourists alike to get some peace from the bustling market square. The north door is guarded by two yew trees and is a focal point of the town. Stow has traditional narrow alleyways, or "tures" as they were once known, which wind their way through the centre of the town. It is these same alleyways that were once used to channel the sheep to the fair. Another point of interest in the town is the well in Well Lane which is now a Grade II Listed Building. As a result of the rather unique geology of the area, water held in the higher layers of the limestone bursts out of various fissures on the slopes and two do still work as wells now. Voted "England's Favourite Village" in 2004 by Country Life magazine, Kingham is a beautiful, unspoilt Cotswold village, with a large open green and some elegant stone and thatch cottages, mostly dating from the 17th and 18th centuries. It is situated in the Evenlode valley, a short drive from the well known Cotswold market towns of Stow-on-the-Wold and Chipping Norton. There has been a church on the site of St. Andrew's Church for at least 900 years, although the present building is a mixture of ages. The font is 13th century, the Perpendicular Gothic tower 15th century, the nave roof is dated 1774 and the rest of the church was remodelled in 1851-3. The church also has a fine old rectory, built in the 17th century. Kingham has two highly regarded pubs, a village shop and is just a mile away from Daylesford Organic, which is well known for its organic food, cookery school and spa. Kingham is also the only village in the Cotswolds that is served by a main line railway station, which provides regular services to London Paddington station. FULL PROPERTY DESCRIPTION Ground Floor Entrance Hall Step through the front door into the sumptuously decorated and furnished living room and dining area, with its welcoming off-white walls and accents of blue and warm orange. Thick, full length curtains can be drawn to screen the pretty half-pane front door (Note: the back door into the kitchen is used by most guests as the main entrance.) Living Room-Dining Area The original 18th Century stone wall surrounding the inglenook fireplace and exposed beams are the statement features of the living room, which are perfectly complemented by the Rococo-style furnishings, including two large sink-in sofas, an armchair and large square coffee table. Light from the front of the house is reflected into the room by two, sculpted mirrors sitting on ornate tables with decorative lamps. Within the inglenook fireplace is a gas-fired woodburner-effect fireplace, which creates a lovely cosy atmosphere on a winter’s evening. A pretty window seat is the perfect place to sit and read, or while away the time watching the world pass by the front of the cottage – though not many of the village’s visitors do explore further than the High Street, yet they really should as this is where the architectural gems of the village can be found. Georgian features and character meet 21st Century in Appletree Cottage’s living room with a flat screen TV, with Sky and Freeview, a DVD player, Blu-Ray player and Pure Contour i1 Air wireless music speaker. On the bookshelf beside the fireplace is a good choice of novels, DVDs, local guidebooks and leaflets. Opposite the fireplace is the dining area, tucked under the stairs yet with adequate room for five guests to dine, and conveniently situated next to the kitchen for ease of serving. A handy under-stairs cupboard houses the vacuum cleaner. Kitchen The bright, modern and fully equipped kitchen, with spacious white units and grey-blue tiles, is at the back of the cottage, overlooking the garden. The kitchen has all the appliances you need for a self-catering holiday, including electric hob and oven, microwave, dishwasher and fridge-freezer, plus all the crockery, glasses and cutlery for six guests. A pretty, half-paned door opens into the living room, and a second door next to the sink leads directly out to the patio and garden. A blue sideboard serves both as a pretty centrepiece as well as useful place to sit a cook book and store house equipment manuals, lightbulbs and other household items. Just off the kitchen is a large storage cupboard, housing cooking equipment and the washing machine/tumble dryer. Just next to the cupboard is the downstairs family bathroom. Family Bathroom The family bathroom is attractively decorated with white tiling, blue-grey panelling and terracotta floor tiles. It features a full-size bath with over-bath shower, toilet, sink, a heated towel rail and a large ornate mirror. There is plenty of space to place your personal toiletries, and hooks to hang clothing and towels while you bathe. (The corner cupboard houses the cottage’s boiler and main water stopcock.) Upstairs A carpeted staircase, with a handrail, full length mirror and striking chandelier lighting leads up to three bedrooms, one with an ensuite shower room. Bedroom One The master bedroom features a king-size double bed and ensuite shower room with a large walk-in shower. This sumptuously decorated room overlooks the rear garden and is decorated in an inviting combination of white, greys and hints of purple. It features a tall button-back headboard over a king-size bed with fabulous Egyptian cotton bed linen, a large ornate mirror, bedside tables with large reading lamps and a double built-in wardrobe. Ensuite Shower Room Bedroom One’s ensuite shower room features a large walk-in power shower (small step up), toilet, sink with mirror, wood-effect flooring, plenty of space for personal toiletries, a heated towel rail and hooks for towels and clothes. Bedroom Two The second double bedroom overlooks the front garden and is furnished with a king-size bed with soft Egyptian cotton bed linen, a tall button-back headboard, a large ornate mirror and beautiful mirrored bedside tables and reading lamps. The room has a double, built-in wardrobe with plenty of hanging space and a single corner cupboard with shelving. (The travel cot and highchair are stored here.) Bedroom Three The third bedroom overlooks the front garden. Though the smallest bedroom, with one single bed, this is an inviting room for children and single guests. From the restful white, taupe and grey colour scheme to the deluxe Egyptian cotton bed linen, button-back headboard, large over-bed mirror, bedside table and lamp, built in wardrobe and storage cupboard, as the double bedrooms, nothing has been forgotten. Outside To the front of Appletree Cottage is a small, typically English cottage garden, with a lawn bordered by flowers and a gravel path leading from the garden gate to the front door with its porch and red letterbox. A rose and ivy climb the front of this 18th century property, making this a welcoming view of the front entrance. To the rear, accessed through the kitchen, is a large patio with a table and seating for 6. (A BBQ is not supplied but guests are free to use disposable BBQs which can be purchased at local supermarkets.) A large storage chest, on the patio, is available for guests to use to store walking boots. A garden tap may be used to wash off mud from boots. Extending from the patio is a small, private garden with lawn to either side of a paved path and mature shrubs and bedding plants along the borders. The path leads to a tall back gate and the parking area. The rear garden is secure for children and animals.

LOCAL AMENITIES Bourton-on-the-Water will spoil you with its choice of independent shops, pubs, coffee shops and tea rooms. Everything you need is in walking distance of the cottage, so a car is not essential. Favourite restaurants include the Rose Tree – a grade II listed cottage overlooking the river on the High Street, specialising in locally sourced seasonal dishes, and Bakery on the Water, a great family run bakery and café. Or, for finer dining, try the Dial House Hotel, a 3-minute walk from Appletree Cottage. The open plan downstairs contains the following areas: Living room: Full of character, the living room contains oak beams, a flagstone floor and a large inglenook fireplace, with a wood burning stove. There is also a TV and a CD player and comfortable seating for four adults; Dining area: Contains a table and four chairs; Kitchen: The kitchen area includes a dishwasher, electric cooker with four hobs, microwave, kettle, toaster and fridge. Stairs lead up to the first floor landing, off which are the following two rooms: Bedroom 1: Contains a double bed; Family bathroom: Contains a bath with overhead electric shower, basin and toilet. We are ideally situated and just a short walk from all the attractions the village has to offer... Birdland to see the penguins being fed, the Model Village, the Motor Museum with over 50 vintage cars, the Dragonfly Maze, the Perfumery, the Model Railway or just feed the ducks on the river! There are many tea shops, restaurants, 2 fish and chip shops and a few pubs in the village. Please be aware that most of the shops and little tea shops close at 4.30 – 5 pm. Meals are available in the evening in most of the pubs and one or two restaurants in the village. From the house you can walk to two of the prettiest villages in the Cotswolds, Lower and Upper Slaughter. If you are a walker, don’t forget to bring your walking boots or wellies! With a car you can visit a myriad of beautiful villages. We will provide maps of villages to visit in just a morning or afternoon or even a day trip with recommendations for a pub lunch or a delicious afternoon tea in one of the many historic hotels in the area. We are in an area of outstanding natural beauty with easy access to places such as Stratford upon Avon to see Shakespeare’s birthplace Oxford (We can provide a walking tour to see all the important sights and colleges (Christ Church College where some scenes from the Harry Potter films were set) Cotswold Wildlife Park & Gardens (A beautiful little zoo set in fabulous parkland, the giraffes are my favourites!) You can also travel by National Express coach to Cirencester. A pick up fee of £7 applies. On stays of 3 nights or more this service is free. Our neighbourhood is very quiet, the only noise is birdsong and yet we are only a few minutes walk to the centre of the village.

We are only a few minutes walk from the village centre and the Windrush Way passes down the side of the house, offering a pleasant stroll into the village along the banks of the river. Whilst Strathpsey's location is a major benefit, the house is situated at the quieter end of the town and forms the boundary for the Bourton-on-the-Water Conservation Area. The room has white linen and Egyptian cotton towels, for your maximum comfort, and is well equipped with tea and coffee making facilities, colour TV with DVD player and radio alarm. The living room is also used for dining and it contains an extendable dining table, with seating for up to four people. The living room then leads into: Kitchen: For a small cottage, the beautifully decorated kitchen is very well equipped, including a cooker with hob, microwave, dishwasher, fridge, freezer and washer dryer. Returning to the living room, a narrow, steep staircase leads up to a small first floor hallway, off which is: Bedroom 2: A cosy bedroom, with exposed beams and brickwork, containing a double bed next to the stone mullion window, which looks out to fields and the brook below. The main bathroom is accessed via bedroom 1 and this contains a bath with handheld shower attachment, basin and toilet. Architecturally the village has quite a different character in comparison to the rest of the North Cotswolds as it has a more similar style to that of the villages in the Stroud valley, but here they have used a more golden stone. This design is reminiscent of wealthier times as the majority of the cottages were built during the 17th and 18th century, at the height of the industrial era. A popular attraction in Blockley is Mill Dene Garden which is a partner garden of the Royal Horticultural Society. With a misty grotto, stream and seats around the mill pond, this is a lovely place to while away the time looking out for the kingfishers whilst enjoying a cream tea. Food & Drink For a relatively small village, Blockley is blessed with a number of places to eat and drink, all just a short walk from anywhere in the village. The Crown Inn (www.crownhotelblockley.co.uk): This 16th century country inn is situated in the heart of Blockley and features a restaurant serving dishes prepared with local produce, along with a bar with an open fire and a wide selection of real ales. This honey coloured historic inn is covered in Virginia creeper which turns a stunning red in Autumn. Walk inside to the scents of wood smoke from the open log fires and snuggle into a comfy chair by the fire, to view the daily papers with a coffee or something stronger. Dinner is served in the warm and friendly restaurant with lighter meals and snacks available in the bar. The “Western” as it is locally known, is a Hook Norton Brewery pub and is tenanted to Sharon Brace. It is right at the heart of the village both geographically and socially, and is where Sharon and her team serve up some of the finest food, drink and entertainment available. The pub has two rooms: one is used as the restaurant and the other houses a pool table, juke box and darts board (dogs are welcome in the pool room). The Pub has recently been extensively refurbished and now boasts 1st class facilities and comforts. The spacious lounge bar/restaurant retains its period "feel" but has been re-furnished and decorated with great taste and care. The atmosphere is warm, welcoming and friendly. Blockley Village Shop & Café (blockleyshop.com): The community owned shop and café is the hub of the village. The shop offers a wide range of basic groceries and necessities, and a tempting array of local products, including farm meat and free-range eggs, daily deliveries of local fruit and veg, freshly baked bread and locally made ready meals. Logs are generally stocked in winter. The licensed café is open all day, serving breakfasts, lunches, coffees and teas, and home-baked cakes. Take-away hot and cold food, including croissants, pastries and baguettes, is also very popular. The café, where free broadband is available, is a popular meeting place for locals and visitors of all ages.
