Located off the beaten path in the beautiful Trail Ridge lake region of North FL, Vause Lake (a.k.a. Lake Fanny) is a lovely 100-acre lake. Our cottage is situated beneath pine, Nyssa, cedar, & sand live oak trees. 2 BR/1 BA with great karma!
We are an easy-going family and love life's simple pleasures- family, good friends, music and meeting new people. We'd like to share our little slice of shangri-la so that others can enjoy its rustic charm as we do.
Our little spot is everything we think a lake cottage should be: low-key, funky, comfy & cozy.
There are two good-sized bedrooms, one bathroom, and a large living area comprising the kitchen, dining area, and family room.
Bedroom #1 has a full-sized bed.
Bedroom #2 has a daybed with a trundle beneath it, and a twin-over-full bunkbed. There’s also a beanbag that can be opened up to a fluffy mattress pallet.
The family room has a t.v. hooked up to a digital antenna (no cable or internet) and a piano. There are board games, as well.
The kitchen is fully stocked. There is a laundry area with washer & dryer. There are also plenty of towels, sheets, and blankets available.
It is an older home (built in 1984). Nothing is fancy. We’re slowly updating things, though.
The bathroom has a combination tub-shower. Disclaimer- The hard well-water has minerals in it which have stained the toilet bowl over time- it’s clean, but is discolored.
Outside there are 2 porches- a covered one that expands the width of the house & faces the lake with a picnic table and a seating area, and a small screened-in porch at the back. In the yard are citrus trees, cabbage palms, saw palmetto, hydrangeas, camellias, azaleas & gardenia shrubs with an overstory of Nyssa, Oaks, Pines & Red Cedar trees. There is a great kids' fort with a swing, as well as an outdoor shower next to the house.
There's a lovely covered dock.
There is abundant wildlife in the area! It is not uncommon to see osprey, hawks, Bald Eagles, Sandhill Cranes, Great Blue Herons & the like. We've even seen an otter in the lake before. While we've never seen alligators here, this is Florida so it's always a possibility. Snakes are also a given in Florida, but several of our neighbors have dogs and they tend to keep the snakes away.
*Update* -- Vause lake ("Lake Fanny") is historically a sand-bottom, clear lake. After Hurricane Irma in Sept 2017, the lake level rose significantly and is now connected to the next lake over, Lake Gillis, via a wet prairie/marsh. Since the water level rose so much, the water is tannic (brownish). This is a natural process (many of our lakes and rivers in FL are always tannic). The water seems to be slowly clearing, but we wanted folks to be aware.
