When you're not lazing on the local beaches, admiring the stunning sunsets, or gasping at the galaxy of stars in the pitch-black night sky - Mirleft has many other activities to offer:
Monday is 'market day' in the main souk where you can find a host of locally made products including honey, carpets, fabrics, Argan soaps/oils and jewellery. During the rest of the week the souk offers a huge choice of fresh fruit and vegetables, meat and (except on Sundays) freshly caught fish. But if you don't fancy cooking - there are several very good inexpensive restaurants offering a range of traditional and European fare.
Mirleft offers some of the most consistent surf on the SW coast of Morocco – with many excellent point and beach break options. There are four main surf schools, comprising locals and Europeans who work together to not only provide equipment and expert tuition, but also to ensure that their clients have relaxing and fun days out.
For 80kms along Morocco's SW coast the colossal cliffs and high hills of the Anti-Atlas mountains are a paraglider's paradise – offering almost all-year-round flying. Technically you can take off from pretty much any location along the coast – but there are now two purpose-built fly zones, cleared of wing-ripping cacti, perched above the village of Sidi Boulfdail – 17kms north of Mirleft. And naturally the teams that work there know all the safe take-off spots along the coastal ridges.
The south west coast of Morocco is fishing heaven with the Mirleft region offering some of the best spots on the shoreline. There are literally hundreds of charming coves and lofty perches along the rocky coastline from which to line-fish varieties including: John Dory, Royal Bream, Amberine, Salmon-Basse. And you don't need to bring your own kit as there are several fishing tackle shops in the village from which you can rent or buy equipment.
In the Mirleft region you can also go horse riding, quad biking and even take a donkey ride to visit mountain villages and experience Berber rural life.
