we had an amazing time at the backwaters. The place was a bit hard to find but we just kept phoning Vinod for directions or at least the driver did. Vinod was a great host..he met us at the ferry stop and took us around the canal to his place by canoe. We paid a bit extra for Vinod to provide lunch and dinner which was well worth it, he is a very good cook. The room is basic but we loved it, the bed was a bit hard but it didn't stop us sleeping well. The cabin is right next to the waters and the pictures featured are exactly as it is. It was really peaceful and we loved waking in the serene surroundings and sitting on the deck in the evening soaking up the atmosphere. As another reviewer said, if you want luxury this is not the place, if you want a great experience, interaction with the locals and a feeling for how the residents in this area live, then this is your place. We stayed 2 nights but wished we had booked more.
A perfect start to our trip around Kerala. Lovedale is a clean friendly, family run home stay right on the waters edge, it was quiet and very relaxing family friendly place, there are resorts on the waters front but no other home-stay in such a perfect location. We ate all our delicious home cooked local food, probably the best food we ate during our whole 3 weeks away in India, over looking the lake. Anshad and his wife Amina are the best hosts, Anshad was so helpful giving us advice and helping us organise trips in the area from a houseboat, trip around Allepey, massage to taxis. I highly recommend Love Dale.
