The Town of Bernalillo and the State Transportation Department are perpetuating a pattern of auto-oriented retail sprawl along Highway 550, necessitating the present bridge widening project and construction nuisance. However, this ancient pueblo site, located overlooking the Rio Grande just past all the nonsense, is well worth your time. Especially if you haven't got much of it.

Great (only) place to rent horses for a group or private trail ride. Costly, but nice horses and very nice place to ride - on pueblo land you can't visit any other way.

Nice day drive north into the mountains past the present day Jemez Pueblo to the Village of Jemez Springs. These are the closest natural mineral waters for soaking. The Bath House is a day spa now. The natural pools can be sketchy. Continue on to view or hike. Check out the Valles Caldera.
