Ototo has a great menu and a very good happy hour. You can find our local Ballast Point Grapefruit Sculpin for $5 during happy hour - I recommend the garlic edamame, the kamakazi fries and all of their rolls.

Caroline's has one of the best patios for enjoying the surf along with amazing breakfast and lunch entrees. There is inside seating if it's cold outside but I'd suggest bundling up and enjoying the salty air. Don't let the line stop you from going - it moves rather fast.

They have a wide variety of items on the menu including a grilled romaine salad, fritto misto, and usually very good specials. Great cocktails and wine selection. If you can, sit on the patio and enjoy the beauty of their incredible ficus tree. I'd take a walk after dinner at La Jolla Shores, it's right down the street.

Bistro du Marche is a very high end French restaurant. It's rather expensive but if you are wanting to splurge it's well worth the money. You must try the mushroom ravioli!

Torrey Pines is a great place to go for a hike and look out at the Pacific Ocean. If you take the right trail you can walk down to the beach and make your way back up on an asphalt path.

La Jolla Cove is a wonderful place to go for an early morning or late afternoon walk. It gets rather crowded during the day, especially in the summer. From the cove you can walk over to the Children's Pool to see where the California Sea Lions have made their home. You can swim and snorkel at the LJ Cove but it's not advisable at the Children's Pool because of all the seals. Once your done with your walk, you can wander up to Prospect Street to "shop" in La Jolla or enjoy a drink / food at Duke's.

From the cove you can walk over to the Children's Pool to see where the California Sea Lions have made their home. You can swim and snorkel at the LJ Cove but it's not advisable at the Children's Pool because of all the seals. Once your done with your walk, you can wander up to Prospect Street to "shop" in La Jolla or enjoy a drink / food at Duke's.
With children, Law St (North Pacific Beach) is one of my favorite beaches. The waves are mellow (most of the time) and you can boogie board and surf (be mindful of the checkered flags - ask the lifeguards if you aren't sure). Take some sand toys, an umbrella and of course sun screen. It can get very crowded in the summer so head down before 10 - street parking is free.

When my children were young we spent one day a week at SeaWorld. It's close enough that you could take the family early, come home for an afternoon nap and head back for Summer Nights (only open at night during (Memorial Day-Labor Day). Who doesn't love Shamu?

Coronado is beautiful. Amazing homes, long beaches and the famous Hotel Del Coronado can be found here. You can either drive over the Coronado Bridge or take a ferry from downtown. Either way you won't be disappointed. There are lots of good eateries and of course, Coronado Brewing Company.

There is a reason that we are called the World Famous San Diego Zoo. Our zoo occupies beautiful canyons and flat land next to Balboa Park (just north of downtown). Potato Chip Rock is a great hike. I like to start at Poway Lake and work my way up and back. You'll never be sorry to have taken one of the famous jumping photos from the rock!
