On the eastern side of Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple, installed in 1833 during the reign of Swathi Thirunal, is the Meshan Mani (clock). It has on its dial, a man's face with two goats on either side. Crafted from mahogany by an artisan called Kulathooran, every time the clock completes an hour, the man opens his mouth and the goats hit his cheeks.

Another one of the city’s great museums is the Puthe Maliga Palace Museum, which used to be the palace of the Maharaja of Travancore. The rich embellishments of carved wooden ceilings and marble sculptures will make anyone appreciate the grandeur and art of the times gone by. Something you may not have known is that the palace is also called Kuthira Malika (place of horses). This name was coined all thanks to the 122 horse figurines in the brackets of the walls, which can still be seen if you lean out of the balconies.
