Local stories abound in the Georgia mountains of McClure's quality bootleg spirits, his charitable giving, and his self delivered justice to those who crossed him. He is also reputed to have been behind the rise of a few notable Georgia politicians of his time.
On January 25, 2012 country musician, Tommy Townsend, a grandson of McClure, announced his partnership with Georgia Distilling Company, Inc. of Milledgeville, GA to recreate and market his grandfathers original moonshine recipes legally for the first time. Dubbed "Grandaddy Mimm's Corn Whiskey", it is produced on stills designed by McClure, and built in Georgia using his secret family recipe. According to press reports, Grandaddy Mimm's line of spirits will be initially distributed in Georgia and throughout the American southeast. The stills were handcrafted by a metal fabricator in Macon, GA.

Designed in 2009, the course stretches out to over 7,500 yards from the tips. Course architect Denis Griffiths incorporated a host of distinctive features, including steep vertical faces, flat-bottomed bunkers, dramatic edging, elevated shapes, and notable strategic variety.
Beginners to professionals will find Old Union to be a welcome host. The unrivaled onsite practice facility provides large turf tees, all-weather tees, sculptured target greens, practice putting and chipping greens, practice bunker and short game areas, and even lessons. Old Union Golf Course offers a choice of 9 or 18 holes of affordable golf, as well as a nice setting to relax with refreshments when the game is complete.

An adorable park only a few minutes from McCaysville, where there is plenty to do, all by the beautiful river. There are plenty of benches to sit and watch the babbling river. People love to fish here. There are picnic tables and a play ground. You could also put in your tubes here if you wanted to get out at the downtown park in McCaysville. Our kids love playing in the water as it's pretty shallow but the water does get a little higher later in the day when the damn releases.

There is a steep trail to get to the top or a shuttle service. On the Bald you’ll find picnic areas with great views; a general store with locally made products; three trailheads just off the parking lot; a mountaintop natural science & history museum, and observation deck that offers a spectacular 360° view of the surrounding area, including four states (GA, TN, NC, & SC) and if you’re lucky, the skyline of Atlanta!
