Neighborhoods

The house is two miles from the Air Force base and you will often get your own private airshow with the HC-130J Combat King, HH-60W helicopters, and A-10 aircraft frequently flying around overhead. Sometimes, you can even hear the iconic sound of the A-10 Warthog firing its 30mm gatling gun (GAU-8) at targets on the nearby range. “BRRRRRRTT!” Moody Air Force base is home of both the 23d Wing Flying Tigers (host) and the 93d Air Ground Operations Wing Spartans (tenant). Both wings are aligned under Air Combat Command. The 23 WG provides combat capability through the presentation of Combat Search and Rescue forces of the of HC-130J, HH-60W and Guardian Angel weapons systems as well as through the AirPower of the A-10 Thunderbolt (aka Warthog). The 93 AGOW has three distinct mission sets: Combat Weather support to the Army, Tactical Air Control Party (TACP), and Base Defense. The base has a small sized commissary and Base Exchange (BX) but should meet all your needs. There is also a combined service station, liquor sales, and gas station. Additionally, there is equipment rental bowling alley (The SPOT), the Moody Field Club for drinks and dining, and other specialty stores typical of a military base (barber, dry cleaning, tactical gear, etc…). There is an air park near the center of the base. There is also Mission Lake which is a small body of water where I see people fishing and boating. Finally, there is a nearby morale area called Grassy Pond. You can find more info at: moodyfss.com

Theme Park

Wild Adventures Theme Park is about 16 miles away and offers amusement rides, a fantastic water park, and an impressive concert series. They also have special events around Halloween and Christmas holidays. If you have access to the base, you can purchase season passes at a discount. But, even if you pay full-price I think it is still worth it just for the water park in the summer with the family. The concerts are free with admission and are a bonus. The rollercoasters are pretty good. And I have always enjoyed taking the kids during Halloween. But Christmas time is one of my favorite times to go and it usually runs from the end of November through sometime just before or just after New Year’s Day.
