Poros of Kefalonia, was, in early times, a fishermen's village. It was inhabited after the eartquake of the Ionian islands between 9 and 15 of August 1953!
Its name means "pass across/pass through". It has almost 1.000 people and is 19 metres above the sea. It is surrounded by the Ionian sea and the mount of "Atros", an extension of the mount "Ainos" (it means "anthem" and is 1.628 m. high).
From 1962 is a National Park. Ainos is mentionned in Homer' s Odysseia.
The whole village is good for bicycle and long walks from one side to the other. It is divided in three neighborhoods: "Aragia", where the house is), "Leukes" and "Sarakiniko" at the other side of the island, on the mountain which dominates the port.
Two ferries boats make the route between Kyllini and Kefalonia: "Andreas Kalvos" and "Fioro di Levante". They are both luxurious. The trip lasts 1.30 hours.

Another mosaic represents the ENVY which is lashed out and devoured by four beasts - a lion, a panther, a leopard.
It is open from 9.00 to 15.00 except Monday.

It was dicovered in 1990 by the archeologist Lazaros Kolonas. Its height is 4 metres and its diameter is 7 metres. Many burials of imminent people, between 1400 and 1000 B.C. took place here. Most of the bounties are exposed in the Archaeological Museum of Argostoli.

It was dicovered in 1990 by the archeologist Lazaros Kolonas. Its height is 4 metres and its diameter is 7 metres. Many burials of imminent people, between 1400 and 1000 B.C. took place here. Most of the bounties are exposed in the Archaeological Museum of Argostoli.
The monastery, on the Mount Atros, is dedicated to the Virgin Mary . It has only two priests who take care of it. The miraculous icon of Panagia is celebrated the 8th - with an evening service - and the 9th of September with a religious festival where a donated lunch is offered.
The monastery was built the 8th c. on a hill of 760 metres. The visitor can admire the medieval Castle and the Lounge which have been preserved.
