You can enjoy the lake for sailing and watersports ( kayaking/ paddle boarding) or just to relax within the town with plenty restaurants , cafes and shops. Well worth trying the boat tours or hiring a little electric boat. You can take your car on Windermere ferry to access the opposite side of the lake towards Coniston and Hawkeshead.

Coniston is beautiful ,nice walks from the village to Coniston lake. Visit the Bluebird Cafe on the lake. We like hiking and have hiked Old Man Coniston twice with lovely views , passing the old slate mines on the way up and a tarn.

The walk around the lake is an easy and flat 3½ miles. Scafell Pike . Fancy a hike up Englands highest fell then this is for you. We’ve done it !! Just take plenty provisions to keep your energy levels up . It’s a slog but so worth it. Get there nice and early as it’s a popular one this.
