A great wee cafe that the with the buzz of local and visiting trade. Kellys butchers nextdoor are renowned for their puddings and sausages. So much so, that representatives from the French Order of the Black Pudding came over to initiate the Kellys into this esteemed, slightly eccentric ,organisation.

Arts & Culture

The ruins of Burrishoole Abbey are special. Quiet and peaceful beside the tranquil tidal estuary where otters can be sighted, this is a place for contemplation and the inner journey. If you enjoy religious art and architecture then the RC church in Newport village is also worth a visit. It's a fine example of neo-hibernian architecture which incorporated elements of early medieval stone carving into 19th century church buildings. The beautiful Harry Clarke stained glass window of the Last Judgement on the east wall inside the building is also a must-see.

This tower house was one of Grainne Uaile (Grainne Mhaol)'s strongholds in Mayo from her first marriage. The story goes that her galley was anchored outside the tower house at Rockfleet and it's warps (ropes) were tied onto her bedstead on the upper floor when Grainne was staying. This infamous sea queen was a fascinating character whose life has been historically recorded by Anne Chambers.
