Rauðhólar is very close to the cabin in Heiðmörk. It is around 10 min walking from the cabin. It is geology very interesting place. Only two of a kind in Iceland. One is Rauðhólar and the other is in Mývatnssveit up north east. It is same as on the planet Mars. It is red craters that were created in erruption in water. Long time ago it was used as part of a mine for a land fill unfortunatly, but that was before people realized how special it was.
