This is the spot Lewis & Clark's Corps of Discovery spent the winter before heading back East. Ft Clatsop has been recreated by the National Park Service so you can see how they lived. There are many Lewis & Clark spots around the area. Go across the Astoria Bridge to the Washington State side and visit Dismal Nitch and Cape Disappointment. The place names alone give you a sense of how the group was feeling when they finally reached the Pacific in the middle of winter.
