Food Scene

It serves good, simple food and has a menu most people could find something they would enjoy on it and it is reasonably priced. It overlooks the lake and has both covered and outdoor dining, open all day and does both lunch and evening meals.

A slightly unusual menu, giving you the choice of both Afghani food and pizzas, both of which are enjoyable! Situated more centrally in the village, it offers plenty of tables inside and also some outside if you prefer outdoor eating.

More of a traditional choice of meat and fish dishes which offers a nice alternative to the other local restaurant menus and at the weekends you can order a big group/family paella.

Mix between a pop-up snack bar, smoothie bar, actual bar and everything in between! Things are reasonably priced and the menu will definitely give you enough to eat, Quite often has live music and certainly has a vibe of its own!

This cafe is also the village épicerie, run by two people who take the sourcing of their organic products very seriously, you can have a very enjoyable breakfast or lunch there and in the high season, they often do an evening menu too.

Drinks & Nightlife

BDQ is a fantastic Artisan Brewery and besides the beer, one of the best things about it is that you can walk there and back from our place! The Taproom has a great atmosphere and is a regular get together place for locals and visitors alike. You can sample many of their award winning beers in the bar and buy some to take away from the shop (they have at east 20 different ales and are ranked something like the fifth highest independent brewery in France). Besides the beers and conversation there's often some kind of food happening on a Friday night and many weekends they have live music performances.

Arts & Culture

A great little find in the heart of the village, lots of history and information on the ancient Troubadours and the instruments they played, there's often a demonstration of the music too.

Sightseeing

Although also to be found caught up in the sad stories of the 'Cathars', the Chateau at Puivert is far more closely linked with Occitania and the creation of the travelling troupes of Troubadours starting in the late 11th century.

This is one of the closest 'Cathar Castles' near us and is the sight of one of the most famous sieges during the persecution and crusades again the religious sects. There's lot's of parking and the climb, while steep is worth it for both the views and the ruin itself. There is a small entrance fee to get into the site but it also allows you in to the museum in the village below where you get a really good understanding of how so many people both lived and survived on the site during the siege. There are also some nice places to eat and relax in the village, after visiting the ruin.

An historic market town, one of the finest surviving arcaded market squares 'Les Couverts', in France. Surrounded by houses from the Thirteenth through to the fifteenth centuries. Always an interesting market (Mondays) all year but particularly so in high season and some fantastic places to eat and people watch after you have walked round sampling the meats, cheeses and wines. If you love a market and architecture, it's well worth a visit.
