We're lucky enough to have one of Bristol’s best bars and casual dining spaces right on our very doorstep. Bocabar do amazing pizza with the freshest of ingredients alongside a decent selection of local ales and beers. It’s based in one of the converted warehouse onsite and has a great little terrace ideal for grabbing a drink on a sunny afternoon. It can be quite popular on Friday night and all day Saturday and Sunday. We suggest you book ahead for a table or grab a drink whilst you wait for your pizza to take away. If you fancy staying around for a few hours after Sunday check out we can heartily recommend their amazing Sunday Lunch!

This takeout/ sit down cafe is located in the silver Airstreams at the top of the Paintworks site. They do a great range of hot drinks and sandwiches. Either pick up a take out coffee or grab a seat inside one of the Airstreams for a fun dining experience. Mention you're staying with us and they'll take 20% off your hot drinks.

Oh my gosh!!!!! Laura Hart is a bit of a hero in our book. She has created a very special bakery under a Victorian railway arch at Temple Meads station, just down the road from Paintworks. You can watch the bakers at work as you tuck into a mountain of their freshly baked sourdough toasties, pastries and cakes and perfectly brewed coffee. Bristolians love it and your trip is not complete without a look in! IT IS AWESOME. It does get busy but it's usually not to long a wait for a table. Availability and menu changes daily but the mushroom sausage roll and ginger cake are our all time faves. Get there as early as possible! It's either a 5 mins drive or a 20 minute walk from Paintworks (100% worth the walk).

This is our go-to fish and chip shop and it has never disappointed us! They do all the chip shop classics really well and they support sustainable fishing too. Unfortunately, they don't deliver at present but it's easy to find on Wells Road by car and you can park just over the road. Fish Supper Heaven is just a short drive away.

Ashton Court is a country park and mansion house with 850 acres of woodland and grassland to explore. Rolling countryside and well maintained paths make it perfect for a longer stroll. Definitely worth a visit for deer spotting and beautiful views of the city. Best accessed by car, only 15 mins drive from Paintworks.

If you fancy trying out a different part of town, we recommend heading to Whapping Wharf: a new development on Bristol's waterfront. Converted shipping containers house some of our favourite restaurants including Root and Salt & Malt (both owned by Bristol's leading chef, Josh Eggleton) and Tare. We love predinner cocktaiks at Little Victories (the cold brew negroni and espresso martini are fantastic). It's also a great place to spend an afternoon browsing the independent shops. Remember to swing by Corks at CARGO to pick up a bottle to bring home. The staff at Corks will recommend a bottle of wine based on your taste and budget: they've never let us down. It's a half an hour to Whapping Wharf or 10mins in the car (plenty of paid parking available) or a quick taxis ride. Walk over the Prince Street bridge to reach Bristol's Harbourside: another iconic and very historic area of Bristol which is well worth a visit. The Polish doughnut stand on a Saturday is pretty special. We also love the Watershed for great independent cinema and bar and We The Curious and planetarium. Great for a full on day our for the kids.

If you fancy getting in amongst the most beautiful Georgian architecture in the UK (after Bath) spend an afternoon in Clifton Village. This is where all the dodgy merchants and rich folk hung out in the 17-18th century. This suburb of Bristol is packed full of upmarket cafes, bars and antique shops, not to mention the iconic Clifton Suspension Bridge. For those not familiar with Bristol we'd recommend grabbing a taxis from Paintworks (15 mins), pick up a coffee and just walk around soaking up the beauty of this very special part of the city. It's very close to Clifton downs. A great location location for daytime strolls.

A few miles into town (Approx 6-7 minutes by taxi) is Tare, one of our favorite restaurants in town. We’ve been six times over the last year with friends and family and have never been disappointed. Always amazing food, seasonal menu changes and great informal service all with a very reasonable price tag makes this little gem of a restaurant one of our ‘must go’ suggestions. It’s even based in a grate little shipping container. Booking ahead is a must.

For a special occasion, we strongly recommend Pacos. This place is a fantastic family run tapas restaurant brought to you by Bristol’s most awarded chef, Peter Sanchez-Iglesias. It recently made it into the Michelin Guide so it’s certainly one of Bristol’s favourite “foodie hotspots”. Food and service are usually top notch. Great cocktail list and sherry is a big thing here too. Early booking recommended.

This family run spot on Cotham Hill (approx 15 minutes in a taxi from Paintworks) does some truly delicious homemade pasta and a mean negroni. But booking ahead is a must. Try their sister restaurant, Pasta Ripiena (specialising in stuffed pasta) if you can't get a table. We promise it will be worth it.

This distillery and bar produces our favourite local gins. Located on the beautiful (but quite steep) St Michaels Hill in central Bristol, this small but perfectly formed bar produces great G&Ts and martinis. We love their unique seasonal gins too which have a limited run. Come here before dinner at Pasta Loco (just round the corner) and you’re all set for a perfect Bristol night. You can also have your favourite bottle delivered home via their website. Seriously, it’s great gin!

This 'hidden' cocktail bar may take some finding but it's definitely worth the effort (look for the flag and door handle in the shape of an antique musket). They do interesting cocktails presented amazingly but all the classics too. It gets pretty busy after 9pm at weekends so have a couple of cocktails before dinner to avoid the crush.

The Ox has quickly become a Bristol institution and has another sister restaurant up on whiteladies road. If you’re a lover is steak and Mac&Cheese, well this place is hevan on earth. We'd recommend trying to get a seat in the original restaurant (on Corn street), located in an intimate basement. Get the salty garlic butter and chips with your rib eye washed down with a big glass of Pinot. We love it. The Sunday lunch with a bloody Mary is a winning combo too .

This long-time favourite of ours was recently awarded a Michelin star and rightly so! For a special treat we go for the 8 course tasting menu (last time we went it was £55) but they have a la carte options too. The atmosphere is unpretentious and relaxed and the food is unforgettable. A short walk from Bristol city centre or a 15-20 minute trip in a taxi. Book in advance.

With a focus on quality and ethical sourcing from the South West, this place is very ‘Bristol” with a bit of an Asian influence. We like going here for a long, relaxed lunch and to get a table by the massive windows to watch the world go by.

One of the UK’s most famous documentary photographers, Martin Parr has his very own gallery and foundation onsite at Paintworks. It’s free to enter and there’s a regularly changing programme of events and exhibitions. Certainly worth a visit.
