Vegetarian restaurant in Seattle. Great for brunch. It's very laid back so on the weekends be prepared for a little bit slower service, but it's worth the wait!

The Alibi Room in Pike's Place Market is super popular- and nestled right among all the gum on Seattle's iconic gum wall! It's a great place to grab drinks or light meal before picking up a show at the Showbox! Recently another location opened up close by, only about 5 minutes away by car. It's a nice place to stop for a mug of beer and a slice of brick oven pizza and salad.

One of my favorite vegan restaurants, it's sophisticated and delicious. It's in Capitol Hill so a little bit of a drive, but you've gotta hit the hill while you're in Seattle!

Araya's Place, located on the "Ave" in the University District, is one of my favorite restaurants, as it is both vegetarian and Thai- and really, really good Thai at that. Catch dinner and then head over to a show at the Neptune Theater for a great date night! Nothing beats Tom Kha soup to warm you on a rainy day.

I guess I'm a bit partial to Thai food- but I have to mention the best of the best! May Thaiku is authentic Thai food. Enjoy one of their delicious cocktails (Radiant Flower is as good as it sounds), and then get ready for the kind of meal that everyone talks about afterwards. The staff is friendly and professional. In the summer, enjoy your meal on their lovely patio.

Essentials

A clean, spacious studio with great teachers, 8 Limbs Phinney Ridge offers a wide variety of classes for folks of all levels. Make sure to check the schedule before you go, and get there at least ten minutes early. Sometimes the sign of a good yoga class is how full they get, and this studio tends to fill up. If you don't like crowds, just go a bit off of rush hour (after 7 pm or for a late mornings class). There are other locations around Seattle. 8 Limbs Phinney Ridge is a quick 10 minute drive away. You can rent a mat. https://8limbsyoga.com/studio/phinney-ridge/

How lucky are we? There's a well-stocked, well-staffed 24-hour grocery store right at the bottom of the hill! It has anything you could want, even a Starbucks and pharmacy. Need milk? Head south (back the way you came), take a left on 100th, forward through the stop sign, and right into the driveway at the bottom of the hill. If it's morning and you're craving diner style pancakes, give Patti's Eggnest a try. It's right next door.

Drinks & Nightlife

This is a great bar- small plates for a small space, great date night place or just a hidden nook to catch up on life with an old friend. Quality drinks and outdoor seating in the nicer months.

Parks & Nature

I love Carkeek Park because it is the hidden gem of Seattle! The parking area borders a large field, a children's playground, access to the beach, and picnic tables. Additionally, it has several hiking paths that can keep you on a good daytime walk/ hike. There are several entrances near the house.

Discovery Park is a 534 acre natural area park operated by the Seattle Parks and Recreation. It is the largest city park in Seattle, and occupies most of the former Fort Lawton site. The site is one of breathtaking majesty. Situated on Magnolia Bluff overlooking Puget Sound, Discovery Park offers spectacular view of both the Cascade and the Olympic Mountain ranges. The secluded site includes two miles of protected tidal beaches as well as open meadow lands, dramatic sea cliffs, forest groves, active sand dunes, thickets and streams.

Green Lake is one of Seattle's favorite gathering places! Why? First, the centerpiece of the park is a huge lake! Just sitting on a bench and staring out at the serene water instantly transports you to a meditative state. You can watch kayakers and ducks paddle on the water as you take a 3.8 mile run or walk around the lake. Just make sure you are on the correct side of the walk! One side is for wheeled people roller skating and bicycling, the other is for pedestrians. There are also many great restaurants like Turnpike Pizza, stores like Whole Foods, and coffee houses like Peet's. The most reliable parking is on the west side of the lake, right off of West Green Lake Dr.

Because it's spooky and fun, and offers a bit of history about Seattle's iconic Pioneer Square neighborhood. It also ends near Pike's Place Market, so it's a great part of a full day downtown.

Sightseeing

Kerry Park is not known for its size- it's a small little place nestled on the south slope of Queen Anne Hill in Seattle. It's known for it's amazing views of the city! Kerry Park features panoramic views of the downtown skyline, including the Space Needle. Bring your camera and a picnic, and stop at Kerry Park before you spend the day exploring the Space Needle or Pike's Place market.

You'll definitely want to plan part of an afternoon visiting the Space Needle- c'mon, it's Iconic! Sure it looks like a futuristic vision from the 1980s, a la the Jetsons.. but it's ours. All joking aside, the Space Needle just received a gorgeous facelift. Ride up the 520 foot high elevator, enjoy its breathtaking 360 degree views of the city at the top, and step onto The Loupe, the worlds first and only rotating glass floor. There is a reason the Space Needle is our most famous landmark, and it is what's on the inside that counts.

Arts & Culture

Seattle Art Museum is located in the center of it all, on 1st and Union in the downtown corridor. It truly is one of Seattle's finest gems. If budget is a concern and you don't mind crowds, head out on the first Thursday of the month- it's free! Having said that, first Thursday happens for all galleries all over the city, so if you partake of it, make sure to get out to some other galleries as well! (Pioneer Square has some great ones). Keep an eye out for SAM's rotating exhibitions; you might not get another chance to catch that traveling show!
