Part of local restaurant group McMenamins, the Kennedy School is a former elementary school that has been converted to a hotel, restaurant, bar (multiple bars, actually), movie theater, and soaking tub (a cross between a pool and hot tub – open to the public for $5). The atmosphere is the best part about the Kennedy School – even if you don’t stay for a meal or a drink, stop by to see the restored building, decorated with actual schoolwork and photos from when the building was an elementary school. Located about 1.5 miles west.

Neighborhoods

Here you will find many independent restaurants, bars, shops, and art galleries. The scene is young and hip with lots of options for drinking, dining, shopping, and people watching. NE Alberta Street runs east/west and is the main drag of this neighborhood. The most walkable stretch is from NE 15th to NE 27th Avenues. Park anywhere along here for a typically “Portland” experience.
