If you want to hire a car for a couple of hours or couple of days, try zipcar. You create your profile and register your ID on the app/website. I'd do this in advance of your trip. Then you can find cars parked across London (and a number of other big cities). You can be charged by the minute from approximately £12 /hour or by the day including fuel. Some flex cars you can even drop off in a different location to where you picked it up. Long gone are the days of queuing up at a Rental Garage with inflexible pickup and drop off hours. Zipcar is relatively cheap and so easy!

Brockley Station is just 5 minutes walk away. There are 2 train lines from here. 1. Southern Rail - this is most useful for fast trains to London Bridge. From here, you can change onto the Jubilee and Northern line underground tube lines (metro). Or you can start sight seeing eg Borough Market. 2. Overground- this is the orange line on the tfl tube map. This is ideal for starting a trip across or into the city. There's also a number of bus routes. I always use Google maps to plan and check for updates when travelling any journey.

It may be located in a car park (Lewisham College’s), but don't let this put you off. Award-winning Brockley Market is a terrific place to pick up some top-quality groceries. The focus is on locally-sourced seasonal food, whether that’s a joint for your Sunday lunch, fresh fish, your basic supply of fruit and veg, or cakes, artisan breads, cheese and charcuterie for a special occasion. If you get hungry, there are loads of street food stalls to sate your hunger. It is largely cash only so stop by an ATM first!

If you want to get the bus, tube/metro, Overground or Trains within London. Don't queue up and buy an oyster card or paper tickets!! Use Contactless payment on your bank card (or Apple/google pay). This is much quicker and there are daily price caps so can be cheaper than buying lots of tickets or a travel card.

Download the Uber app if you need to get a taxi ride across town. They'll arrive in minutes and you'll get the best fare.
