Just some spots among the lots of others. I have tried to skip the obvious ones and name some less known places.
Well known eventplace at the end of Váci walking street. Christmas Market and other happenings take place here. Quite expensive area to eat, but you can find those affordable clothing stores.

Liberty Bridge (Szabadság híd) is the favorit Bridge of most inhabitants. Being closed from the traffic in 2016 made the idea to let the people occupy it time to time again. Don't miss to give it a try on those occasions (most weekends in July, early August).

Gellért Hill is probably the best viewpoint in Budapest. Fun fact is that the fortress was built against rebellious hungarians. Under renovation / reconstruction till 2023 (partly opened sometime in 2022 hopefully)!

Fancy street (October 6. and the perpendicular streets, too) with a huge variety of restaurants and great atmosphere.

The area is called Palace District. Lot of pubs around, but more calm than the party district, a nice area if you are over the must sees. It is popular among students due to the nearby library.

Nice park, green oasis in the inner city (our children's favorit playground). Charles, the rabbit (well, let's say his current successor) lives here and got a statute, too. He was an Eastern Bunny, left here after the holliday, but found new home here.

The most obvious one-day excursion is to take suburb train, or even better to rent a bike and get there. You will find churches, museums, restaurants with the small town vibe.

Probably the best place to try Lángos. Please note, that it is temporary closed in 2020 springtime. Garlic + sour cream + cheese makes the traditional style, but there is a huge variety of possible toppings.

This bar hasn't changed a thing since the kommunist era and still popular among inhabitants (especially from springtime to late autumn). Calm environment with the feeling of the 'no change'.

Nice Concert and Event Hall in the 'National Hole In The Ground' and a good open air bar, too. Strange name comes from political reasons: a governmental decision was made and they started building here the new National Theater, but after the elections works stoped and we had the expensive hole for years without any idea what to do with it. Fortunately, best solution was found after all and an underground concert hall was built here with a pool at its top. Originaly, the name of it was Gödör (Hole In The Ground), but later changed to Akvárium.

The oldest zoo in the country, openned its gates in 1866. Cleverly planned, beutifully designed with some art nouveau style buildings, such as the Elephant House. Closing of the neighborhood Amusment Park, territory of the zoo was doubled (only a few elements survived, like the roller-coaster, carousel). Monumental new building of Pannon Park is under construction, but the rest of the zoo works properly.

Uniqaly, there are several caves under Budapest on the Buda side. This is told to be the most spectacular. Not an anavarage destination for a typical stay, but if you have the time and interest, why not?

Order taxi on phone / via an App

Unfortunately, as in many cities, Budapest has tradition on taxi scams. No need to be afraid, though, but to avoid overpaid rides, you better not hop in a cab, but order it online. Worst areas: railway stations, airport (except the official taxi stands, outside of the building), party areas at night. Please use Bolt app, or call an official taxi company!

Public transportation tickets, passes, inspections

We have good public transportation, but inspectors are strict, so please buy one ticket per person from a machine and don't forget to validate (normally when boarding trams, buses, but before going under the surface if taking subway). Keep your validated ticket till you get off / leaving subway zone! Daily pass may worth to buy, but only if planing at least 5 rides a day. This case, you can download SimplePay app, if you like to.
