Port Townsend Route

This is a finicky route in the winter, and a busy one in the summer. We love our local dock and the fine folks who keep the Washington State Ferry system running, but we do not recommend this route in the winter months for most guests.
If you would like to build Whidbey Island into your trip, we strongly recommend exploring Whidbey after your visit to Port Townsend. Make a reservation for the Port Townsend to Coupeville crossing. Arrive early, but know there’s a coffee shop about two blocks away downtown if you give yourself plenty of time. Fantastic thrift stores and impressive scenic views await on Whidbey Island!

If you are visiting from the North puget sound region, this route makes the most sense but please be prepared. Reservations are as good as required. Please make a reservation for this route. Arrive early and pack what you need, like snacks and car games. There aren’t great services in Coupeville, which is not near the ferry terminal.

Edmonds-Kingston

Recommended for most arriving from the general Puget Sound Region.
This is a route that we recommend to most travelers coming from the East and/or greater Seattle area. Lines can be long at peak times but there are amenities near the line including public restrooms and several restaurants and coffee shops. The Edmonds ferry runs larger boats with more frequent crossings than the Port Townsend route so reservations are not even available. Always prepare for a long line with ferries and consider packing snacks and car games.

Seattle-Bainbridge Island

Recommended for travelers coming from Seattle proper, those in the greater Seattle area who would like to experience cruising out of downtown Seattle, those arriving via I-90.
If visiting port townsend from Seattle or South Sound, we recommend the Seattle to Bainbridge Island ferry route. These large vessels with frequent sailings will get you over to the Kitsap Peninsula in no time! You will arrive in beautiful Bainbridge Island, travel through the Viking town of Poulsbo, speed through the agrarian world of Chimacum, and into the heart of Port Townsend.
