Only 12 mi from the house on Alabama Highway 128 you’ll find one of the largest state-owned campgrounds in the United States, Wind Creek State Park. However, that distinction is not the only thing that makes Wind Creek special. Wind Creek State Park is the public's access to Lake Martin. Wind Creek State Park offers the perfect setting for family recreation and relaxation. The park provides something for all ages. Activites include; fishing, picnicking, hiking, and relaxing beneath the whispering pines. Picnic tables and grills are available on a first come-first serve basis. 3 picnic pavilion rentals are available. Adults ages 12 to 61- $5.00 per person Kids 4 to 11- $2.00 per person Senior 62 and older- $2.00 per person Boat Launch- $5.00

Located off Highway 280, you will learn about the prehistoric Indians that lived and died in the caverns, Confederate soldiers that mined gunpowder, early Indian traders that visited, and moonshine making during prohibition times. Open year-round with a cave temperature of 60 degrees, the park offers campgrounds, a gift shop with a cafe, a scenic picnic area, and pavilions near waterfalls, streams, and ponds. A laser light, sound, and water show is included in every cavern tour. They also offer over 20 outside attractions that include a maze, gem panning, crystal find, wacky water golf, archery, and more.
