What to do in and around Tromsø

Experience

This nice cafe offers Norwegian pastry, cozy atmosphere , local things for sale and a fantastic view to the majestetic mountain-chain that is opposite Ersfjorden Can reccommend a stroll along the beach in summer or winter or to enjoy the scenery from the terrace. About 20 min by car from Tromsø. You can also take route 42 from town or «Bjørnstrand» to «Eidkjosen» and then 425 to «Ersfjordbotn». In summer: if you want to walk to the top of «Nattmålstind» you need to stop just 1-2 km before Ersfjordbotn. When you see the football court and parking place, you can park there. Then walk on the path beside the court (the side closest to the ocean/Towards Ersfjordbotn) Then follow the path and the red marks on the stones, and «varder» up hill, to the top. Enjoy the view if the weather allows it. About 1-2 h walk to the top.

Its only 10 min drive or 20 min by bus ( route 33 from town or «Bjørnstrand»).There is a path from the beach along the shore. You can bring some wood and make a fire here at several places. Close toTromsø museum. It’s also a good place to spot the northern lights when its dark.

Reccomended, as its a fantastic view at the top. You can also walk to the top and/or down again. In winter use spikes on your shoes, you can buy them in any shoeshop:) There are sherpabuilt stairs most of the way. Take bus 20 or 24 from «Grøholtvegen» (At Dramsvegen) to «Kongsbakken» and then route 28 to «Hjorten» ( at the map) walk 11 min to the sherpa stairs.

1 h by car, and 1 h 50 m from town with a bus (route 420 from Torgsenteret 2) A really special place, because of the many white beaches, small islands and chrystal clear water. there is also a hotel here, where you can eat lunch. On your way here, you may see reindeer walking by the road or in nature. 10 min drive from the hotel you can also take the ferry to Senja, (also a beautiful and special place to visit.)

Kvaløya is one of the largest Islands in Norway, and if you drive across to Sommarøy or Tromvika its a good chance you see reindeer walking along the road, in the fields, or relaxing somewhere.

The Lyngen Alps is well known. Just watching these mountains will make a great impact on most, and its many popular routes for tracking or skiing. Its worth the trip on about two hours by car, including a ferry. Blåisvatnet is a popular route in summer, its about one-two hours walk from the carpark at the foot of the mountain and the route is very well marked. When you come to the water you will also see the glacier that gives the water the clear blue color. Its possible to walk on the glacier ( guided tour, you need to order in advance) In winter there are also several possible guided activities here, like skiing, dogsledding or snowmobile.

Indoor climbing in the same building. You can rent equipment and the teachers are great. You can order for only one hour or more. All levels: also for beginners/first timers and kids.

This iconic church is one of Tromsøs hallmarks, but most charming from a small distance in my opinion, and from the inside, it is worth a visit😊 Can be combined with the cable car which is close by. 45 min walk or 10 min by bus ( route 20 from Grøholtvegen)
