Visit Hareshaw Linn and take a magical walk through an ancient woodland, crossing no less than six bridges to reach a beautiful nine metre high waterfall. This Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) is designated for its rare ferns and lichen. More than 300 different types of mosses, liverworts and lichen can be found at Hareshaw Linn. The oak, hazel, elm and ash trees that grow here are great for wildlife. Keep a look out for red squirrels, great spotted woodpeckers, redstarts, dippers, badgers and Daubenton’s bats.

Walltown Country Park lies on the line of Hadrian’s Wall, near the village of Greenhead. 45 years ago, this site was a working quarry, where the hard whinstone was blasted with dynamite to provide road stone for the expanding road network of the early 20th Century. After it closed in 1976, the quarry was filled in and landscaped, planted with trees and flowers, and today is a haven for wildlife and nature. It is a place to relax, watch wildlife and feed the ducks, but you can also find adventure in its meadows and woodlands and get a real taste of the wild!

“Had my birthday evening meal here. Wonderful food, served by friendly staff. Good beer, too. The pub itself is delightfully traditional in its décor and represents the perfect English pub set in the heart of the national park. Highly recommended!”

“Highly recommended, first class service and food was delicious. We came for Sunday lunch and one of the group has dietary requirements of requiring gluten and dairy free. Staff bent over backwards to help and accommodate. There was no issue and they were very knowledge of her needs. Thanks again”

The restaurant is beautifully decorated with an up market vibe without being snooty and pretentious. The staff were lovely and the food is delicious. Loved the steak pie and the haddock mornay. They also have some excellent starters, loved the tempura black pudding in the peppercorn sauce.
