Ideas for visiting Manitoulin Island

Sightseeing

Swim, walk behind the falls, or just enjoy the view! There is a trail you can walk as well. Parking Tip - the parking lot right by the fall is very small and if it's full and you park on the road, you risk being ticketed. Instead, keep driving up Main Street in the direction of Mudge Bay and you'll see a number of spots on your right to pull off and park for the Kagawong River Trail. It's a bit more walking but it's worth not getting a ticket! Also if you're interested, consider a tour of the Kagawong River with Manitoulin Streams, a local conservation group.

A must-see, the Cup and Saucer Trail is a great hike with stunning views! Arguably the most well known trail on the island, if you're an early riser, sunrise is a great time to go. But it's truly great any time of day. If you're interested, consider experiencing it with an Indigenous guide - check out Great Spirit Circle Trail.

Beautiful public beach and boardwalk! One of the best beaches on the Island, soak up the sun and play in the sand or have some fun on the playground equipment - this is a great spot for families. The sunsets here are also spectacular - and pair nicely with ice cream from Huron Island Time!

With a wide range of up-and-coming as well as established artists, you'll find everything from painters to sculptors to crafters. The Gallery also holds open-air concerts and artist workshops. One of the biggest events they have is the Group of Seven Show which occurs each year - artists from all over are challenged to paint just like AY Jackson, Lawren Harris and the other members.

Little current is a great little town with some great boutique shops! Check out the views of the iconic swing bridge, enjoy a walk along the water on the boardwalk and marina, or check out some of the local shops or restaurants! The swing bridge was built in 1931 and is an Ontario Heritage Site. It stays open for vehicles to pass except for the first 15 minutes of every hour from 7am until 10pm daily from June to August. Walk along the Little Current Waterfront Trail for the best views of the swing bridge!

Soak up the sun with a pint in hand on their patio - I recommend getting a flight so you can try a few of their beers! While they don't do food themselves, The Trough next door has you covered with plenty of choices from burgers to salads to poutine!

Split Rail has a great patio along the shores of Gore Bay. Enjoy some good beer along with the vibes of Lake Huron's north channel! If you'd like to learn more, hop on a tour of the facility! There is also a seasonal food truck - Manitoulin Pizza Company - that is often on site at the edge of the patio.

Each of these lookouts you can drive to, so if hiking isn't your thing, we've got you covered! - Macleans Mountain Lookout (just south of Little Current). Note the drive is a bit steep up this gravel road. - East Bluffs Lookout (Gore Bay). This also makes for a great picnic spot! - Two O'Clock Lookout (Wikwemikong). Fishing Tours

Isn't no secret that fishing in Northern Ontario is great so why not see what you can catch? Your best bet is to go on a guided tour or hire a local guide - they know when and where the fish are biting so you won't come out empty-handed (hopefully)!
