Classy and elegant yet reasonably priced, Scalo's is an iconic Nob Hill Northern Italian fusion restaurant. Covered outdoor patio has amazing views of the mountains. Menu covers Italian with a light, seasonal touch. A place for a pleasant brunch, all the way to a fancy dinner out. Attached bar has live music some nights.

The only really good Indian food in Albuquerque! True Northern and Southern dishes, prepared traditionally with excellent service. I've been to India and this place is good. White tablecloths but totally affordable, even inexpensive.

No matter how many years I have been to this annual event, it's still AMAZING!!! Something that you have to experience to understand. The event spans the first couple weekends in October each year. If you are anywhere nearby, don't miss this!

This is a fun 1/2 day activity in Abq. Drive to the base of the Sandias, and take a tram (cable car) up to the top. Huge views over the whole city and beyond. Drink lots of water, you are gaining about 5,000 ft elevation during the trip. Amazing colors at sunset. There's a restaurant at the top.

Drink lots of water, you are gaining about 5,000 ft elevation during the trip. Amazing colors at sunset. There's a restaurant at the top.
Right near Downtown Abq, you can visit the Zoo, Aquarium, and Biopark in one day. There's a little train that runs between the Zoo, and the Biopark/Aquarium as they are a short distance apart. Great family activity, and enough shade to be comfortable in summer. The Biopark is our favorite of the three.

There's a little train that runs between the Zoo, and the Biopark/Aquarium as they are a short distance apart. Great family activity, and enough shade to be comfortable in summer. The Biopark is our favorite of the three.
Sightseeing
Visit the art galleries and shops, listen to evening music in the plaza bandstand, visit the old church - and see the historic architecture of Albuquerque's original Old Town. It's our slice of the "Santa Fe" vibe.

Parks & Nature
You can drive up and back from Sandia Crest in a morning, but if you park at the top you can hike along the crest for amazing views of the city and desert for tens of miles. Bring water, and a camera! It can be quite a lot colder and windier at the top so pack a jacket and layers.

The Bosque along the Rio Grande is full of wildlife and offers many trails. You can park at the Nature Center for a small fee. Birdwatching groups often start from here.

Our favorite hike in the Sandias. 3.7 miles round trip, ~1000ft elevation gain, well-maintained, moderate trail. Nicely shaded and lots of views on the way up out to the east. At the top you get an expansive view out over Abq and west across the desert.

This is a great "Hidden" park, surrounded by houses with access down a couple small lanes. It's shaded with big old trees, and has a lush green lawn. People usually let their dogs off leash here to run and play. Community park.

Instead of taking the freeway up to Santa Fe, take the historic Turquoise Trail (North Hwy 14) and stop in Madrid for a bite or cup of coffee! This old mining town has been transformed by artists into a unique off-grid community with lots of galleries, art studios, and restaurants. It's funky, eclectic and the most truly "hippy" town in the area, way more than Santa Fe.
