Holyrood is where the Queen stays when she visits the city. When she’s not here, you can tour the palace and gardens. It’s a nice alternative to Edinburgh Castle, and sits just below Arthur’s seat.

The Botanic Gardens are beautiful throughout the year, but especially nice in the summer. The East Gate entrance is less than a five minute walk from the flat and entrance is free (some extra exhibitions and areas may be ticketed). If you’re after a day away from the more touristy parts of the city, I recommend walking through the gardens, exiting on the west side, meandering through Inverleith park (fantastic view of the city from the park when you stand above the pond), and then explore Stockbridge.

Thistle Street is nestled into New Town, a few streets up from the main Prince’s Street. You’ll find a cluster of great restaurants here, well located between the hustle and bustle of the more touristy Rose Street, and the local vibes of Stockbridge.
