Food Scene

In Newlyn by the famous fishing port. Food is varied, fresh and not too expensive. Popular, however, one can not book. Idea to look around the harbour at the boats and the views towards St. Michael's Mount and back towards Newlyn.

Arts & Culture

The area was very much involved in mining, mainly tin and copper. Once the capital of the World. There is still a lot of evidence of this industrial heritage. The museum will give you an idea of what happened underground, the mining and then the production. You will then have a better understanding of life in those times and look at the old engine and pump houses differently. The Great Flat Lode is nearby and again a great chance to enjoy a bit of fresh air while seeing a lot of history and scenery.

In the middle of St. Ives. A lovely oasis. A museum that tells us a lot. Shows just how sculpture can add something to our lives. Barbara Hepworth would appear to be able to give us that something extra/special .

Hayle - Enjoy car free days out

The quayside is walking distance to the beautiful bay and many golden beaches. The coastal footpath is nearby. The Estuary and Godrevy are places known internationally for the many different birds that maybe observed. Hayle was once the centre of the industrial revolution in early 19th century; the area being very much involved in mining. It is part of the World Heritage Site.
Just down the road and well worth a visit. Photographed, painted and written about, reference made 'In to the Lighthouse' by Virginia Wolfe. Rugged and beautiful part of the coastline. Home to many birds and a colony of seals. These can usually be seen at Mutton Cove on the coastal footpath. From the coast here you can look westwards across the Red River and see Gwithian, a beach famous for its surf. The beach is lifeguarded in the summer

This beautiful landscape is scattered with reminders of the industrial heritage of Cornwall. The chimneys are not smoking now and nature has reclaimed the land. It is lovely to walk here and the views on a clear day are spectacular, one can see the coast clearly. It is also good for cycling. There various tram ways that run from the North coast to the South

Mining heritage. Positioned on the cliffs above the sea. Quite a walk to get to on a good day. Difficult to imagine what it must have been like to have to go inside and under the ground for long shifts not knowing what was happening outside. The series Poldark has used Botallack for its mining scenes. There is a very interesting Museum nearby called Geevor. Geevor was one of the last mines to close down. Again beautiful scenery and walks in either direction on the coastal footpath. Cape Cornwall in one direction and Pendeen lighthouse in the other with lots of interest inbetween.

On the south coast and usually sheltered. There are two harbours, the inner being more sheltered. There are still a few boats that fish from here and a shop in town that sells fresh crab. The Harbour is attractive and easy to walk around. There is an ice cream parlour, which sells some rather delicious flavours. There are some lovely walks nearby. It depends how far you wish to walk but the Penrose walk is rather good or a walk around Loe Bar - a natural fresh water lake. There are also quite a few restaurants and places to eat to chose from.

St Michael's Mount appears like a fairytale island. The castle standing out above the harbour and seen for miles; surrounded by sea, opposite Marazion. However, at low tide there is a cobbled ancient causeway that allows people to walk across. There are boats to ferry people back and forth so you can enjoy your time on the island knowing you have a means of getting back safely. The crossing can be rather pleasant coming into the harbour below the castle or climbing down the steps to return looking over at the mainland and Mount's Bay. Part of the National Trust, it is worth checking when the castle and gardens are open. It is a lovely outing, lots to do and explore.

Rather wonderful coastline and to find a theatre built into the cliffs quite a surprise. It blends in so well with the landscape you would believe that it had been there forever. The theatre is outdoor and is a wonderful setting to watch a play with the sea as backdrop. There is a museum here and a cafe with fantastic views but should you wish to see a performance check availability (some pretty good productions by some travelling companies), bring cushions or rugs for comfort. Porthcurno beach is just below which is rather lovely, sandy and safe to swim. Lifeguarded in the summer.

This combines beautiful landscape with art. There are various sculptures and things of interest dotted around the gardens. The landscape here is unusual, made more so by the exotic and different planting. Lots to see and again quite a bit of walking involved. Lovely cafe here.

Worth a visit. Lovely beaches and a lot to see and do in town. Gets very busy in summer. Better not to have a car. Park at St Erth and take the train. A wonderful journey with great views of the coast.

Entertainment & Activities

Lovely stretch of coastline looking across towards St. Ives and Carbis Bay. Unspoilt. Behind the beach is a nature reserve with a fresh water area providing a different envirnoment for birds and plants. The beach itself is popular with surfers and is lifeguarded. Lovely walks here too.

Parks & Nature

Acres of woodland and countryside on the doorstep, no need to get in a car. Ideal for walking, jogging or cycling. The park is varied and provides something for everyone. At the far end is a lake, car park and cafe. This area more popular. There are ducks, swans and squirrels that are pretty tame here. However, for the more adventurous you can walk to North Cliffs and head out along the Coastal Path. Always something different to see. This is home to some rather good entertainment - Rogue Theatre are often performing their magic here and have a new summer production. More details on their website.

This is so varied and introduces one to a landscape not seen from the road. It does not cost money and you are free to travel at your own pace. There is so much to see and enjoy. Different places to stop and explore. The footpath and landscape can at times become more rugged and harder to navigate. Look at maps and you will get the idea of how the land lies and the distance to a village, etc.
