Food Scene

Just writing this is making my mouth water. Hole-in-the-wall, counter-seating only, greasy-spoon diner that serves delicious perogies, Eastern European fare and the expected diner breakfasts.

Top-of-the-list brunch spot. Their food is overall delicious and their yuca fries are yum. Fun place to go for a drink at night as well.

Diner-style burger joint that hits the spot if that's what you are in the mood for. Nothing fancy, just good old-fashioned burgers straight up. Friendly, attentive service.

There's a reason why Cafe Mogador has been a neighborhood favorite for so long. The food, service, and ambiance are the best of the East Village. It's reasonably-priced too. It's great for both brunch/ lunch/ dinner. Be sure to get there on the earlier side for brunch: wait times after 12 can be a bit long.

Drinks & Nightlife

A McSorley's Old Ale House trip is almost obligatory, even if you're not a beer drinker. Opened in 1854, it was one of the last "Men Only" bars until it was made illegal (1970). Oldest Irish bar in Manhattan, includes authentic Irish-accented staff. They serve two kinds of beer: dark and light.

Fabulous speak easy in Gramercy, about a 20 minute walk from the apartment. Great date night spot or a place to go for a unique, thoughtfully decorated drink spot with friends.

You'd almost miss this place if you didn't know where to go. Climb up the stairs to the Japanese restaurant and you'll find the door to Angel's Share near the top of the stairs. A cool vibe and good mixology drinks.

Everything Else

Great bagel and coffee spot to sit down and read a magazine or newspaper. They just opened up the back patio area for outdoor seating.
