Are you vegan, vegetarian, or just want to eat tasty Asian food in peaceful surroundings, try Jyun Kang.
It is located in the Buddhist monastery, City of Ten Thousand Buddhas in Talmage (fewer than 2 miles from our house.
There is a catch. They are open from 11:30-3 pm daily, closed on Tuesdays, and they only accept cash. You may expect to pay between $20 and $30 for two people to come away completely satisfied.
Take a stroll afterward to see peacocks, and feel like you are in another peaceful country after your meal.
Also, see Buddha hall, and observe some of the 10,000 Buddhas which were hand carved by the founder of the monastery.

Good food at a good price. Taco Loco is a great place for a quick bite, and at about 2 miles away, it is super close to the house!

If you are craving frozen yogurt, U Top It is the place in town to get it. Create your own tasty creation as you mix fruits, cookies, whipped cream, and other toppings on cool and refreshing frozen yogurt.
They do charge by weight, so don't go too crazy with the toppings. :-)

Hike up the forested trails along a serene lush trail. As you hike over the crest of the hills, a grove opens up before you, and you find yourself amongst the tallest trees in the world., literally (verified in the early 2000's).
Pack a picnic and enjoy the grandeur of these silent giants. It will take about 25 minutes to drive to the park, but it is well worth it. Take sturdy walking shoes, and you mind get a little mud on them.

Big trees, hiking trails, and water. It is a nice day trip. Who could ask for more?
There are many trails which go through our local park. Just on the western edge of town, you may play frisbee golf, hike up to the "U", or watch dogs frolic at the off leash dog park. There is also a play ground, and a number of BBQ set ups.

Nearby, at low tide, you may see anenomes, crabs, sea stars, and many other marine animals in the tide pools.
After your beach adventure, head downtown to Cow Licks, for hand made ice cream!
Kayaking, paddle boarding, or searching for abalone, you can do it all at MacKerricher State Beach. You will have to drive for 1.5 hours along beautiful state route 253 to arrive there. But, the coast offers a cool respite from the warm inland summer days.
Rent a kayak nearby, or take your own. Be sure to a take a jacket, though . It may be foggy, and cool there when it is clear and warm in Ukiah.
