The view from this lakeside café is stunning, and they’ve managed to combine good coffee (Allpress) with epicurean delights in fine form. The extensive salad bar is worth mentioning, as are the Med Spread platter and Harissa Squid. Good food, great atmosphere and superb location!

This is the underrated mountain in Taupo. its a 2.5 hr walk return. from the top there are spectacular views of the Forrest and the entire lake on a clear day. perfect photo opp especially at sunset in the summer or a good early morning riser walk!

Very Touristy, but is free geothermal hot springs in the streams next the river. please note that if you are driving down there lock the car and make sure you leave valuables at home or hidden as the car park area is a targeted spot.

494 Orākei Kōrako Rdbit out of town: his is an easy, flat walk into a small rain-fed lake surrounded by tall kahikatea and rimu trees. The boardwalk snakes through the bush to the viewing platform, which provides a tranquil spot to enjoy beautiful reflections and a variety of birdlife. This track is best enjoyed after rainfall to appreciate the mirror effect of the lake; however keep in mind that heavy rain may bring the lagoon level up over the boardwalk. (20 min walk)
